You're right, the Pope has not explicitly told people to kill gays, he just calls them a threat to world peace and expect nobody to do anything bad to them. And he follows it up by blessing someone who is currently pushing for a bill that would impose the death penalty on homosexual behavior.

So you're right, no explicit talk about killing homosexuals. Just a nod and a wink in that direction.

Much like the way Kristallnacht happened. But then, this pope did learn the art of propagandizing against despised minorities while a member of Hitler Youth, so why should anyone be surprised.

And you're wrong. He blessed thousands of people in a mass - she happened to be one of the thousands. Try to read facts instead of making them up?

This says nothing about his failure to condemn the bill in Uganda - which should righly be condemned. He should speak out

I agree. If he wasn't aware of this before, he certainly is now. The Church has been consistent in it's opposition to the death penalty, and it should certainly make that clear in this case.

To say that the Pope has given his blessing to Uganda's "Anti Homosexuality Bill" is quite a stretch of the imagination.

A lot of hysteria over nothing.

She actually interacted with the Pope, even handed over a framed portrait to him. Don't act like this was some faceless blessing.

I can't wait to hear him try to rationalize his disagreement with the bill while also calling homosexuals a threat to world peace.

the "blessing" was a separate occasion than the "meeting" the blessing being a large general public act (the whole crowd received it) the meeting being more intimate occasion.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

This is the subject line:

Pope gives his blessing to Ugandan "kill the gays" bill
How about some facts? To say that the Pope gave any blessing to a bill to "kill" homosexuals is an outright lie. What else should one expect?

There was a Mass attended by thousands, amongst whom were the Ugandan delegation. All the "pilgrims" received one and the same blessing, including this woman. The woman met the Pope as part of a delegation of Ugandans and presented him with a picture of some shrine. It's not clear in which order these things occurred

How can it be an outright lie when the Pope has directly called homosexuals a threat to world peace?

If they met first, then he knew she would receive the blessing and said nothing. If they met afterward, then he knew she had received the blessing and said nothing.

When will we learn that it is the religious nutcases who are the source of all the horror, bloodshed, torture, and evil?
Adam Lanza was a religious nutcase? I didn't even know he went to religious services. Go figure. :shrug
And all those nut jobs that Gob listed in the other thread about killings in the USA. I didn't know they were religious in nature.

Good thing I am spiritual, rather than religious. Although I better watch out for my father and sister as they are religious.

Oldr, that comment you quoted has already been thoroughly exposed as the single most idiotic thing said in this thread....

Nobody, (including the author of that bit of stunning ignorance) is going to try to defend it. (If he were going to try to defend it, he would have done so after I posted a rogue's gallery illustrating just how stupid the comment was. Apparently the enormously moronic nature of the statement has sunk in, even to him....He certainly doesn't have the decency to retract it of course, but apparently even he is not fool enough to attempt to defend it.)
