The statement:

"The Republicans included a sunset clause in order to get it passed though the senate. (where Republicans had 50 votes plus the VP)"

Is not the same as:

"The Republicans included a sunset clause to avoid triggering a "PAYGO" budget-busting limit to get the bill through the senate."

The first statement dishonestly leaves out information included in the second. The Republicans wrote the bill to dishonestly try to skirt regulations designed to prevent the kind of budget-busting deficits which they created anyway.

We're still waiting to see what the estate tax limit is going to be. So far, no ink, no deal.

When the Republican tax breaks for the rich expire most of the deficit problem disappears as well. The most serious question with the 'fiscal cliff' is avoiding the kind of imposed austerity which has driven the UK into a triple-dip recession.

While Obama's stimulus was not large enough it was enough, just, to keep the US economy ticking along better than most of Europe and a lot better than the UK:

The evidence is clear that the Republican programme will drive us back into recession. Obama should stick to his guns and stop trying to compromise with traitors.

What a total clusterfuck, this is without a doubt the most useless Congress in the history of Congresses. The President should be kicking asses and taking names, but still refuses to put himself out there. :arg

The deal is ridiculous, and isn't going to make a drop in the bucket of financial mess. :arg

Someone, pour me another mimosa please.

LMAO

God what a complete friggin' moron.....

One of the funniest things about you rube, is the way that you not only show what an ignoramus you are, but the way you come back to a point you made a total fool out of yourself about, and draw attention to it, as though you're worried that someone might have missed your stupidity the first time....
"The Association for Advanced Life Underwriting is very pleased that the agreement brings permanence and certainty to the estate tax regime — which we have been advocating for over the last decade,” said David Stertzer, AALU president and CEO.

Under the agreement, U.S. estate tax law will provide a $5.12 million per-person exemption. The deal raises the highest tax rate from 35 to 40 percent but continues the current policy of reunifying the estate and gift taxes. All other current policies related to the estate tax will also remain in place.

“This provides a key tool for business succession planning, and helping preserve jobs and economic investment in the process,” Sterzer said.

It was really tough to find rube...it required typing the words, "estate tax senate deal" into Google and clicking "search"....obviously beyond your wit, but probably well within the capabilities of everybody else...

You figure the Republicans in the House will lower the limit and raise the rate?

The way things are playing out might be even better for Obama.

The intransigent unthinking hard-right in the House appear ready to kill any hope of a deal.

So Obama tried to meet them (more than) half-way and they did nothing. Maybe its better to wait for the new congress to be seated and the Republicans to deal with fewer seats in both houses. And for them to deal with the fact that by doing nothing nearly all of the deficit problem magically went away.

Obama can come back in a situation where nearly all of the deficit simply does not exist any more.

I'm thinking the Republicans in the House have not agreed to anything. And probably won't. But they have proven stupid enough to create the worst economic collapse in 80 years and then pretended it never happened so god knows what your traitors will do next.

What a total clusterfuck
I'm with you on that one...

Now apparently what's going on, is they've come up with a package of 300 billion in additional spending cuts to attach to the Senate bill, (which would effectively kill the bill; something Boehner has pointed out to his members.) and they're polling the caucus members to see if there's enough votes to pass it. If not, Boehner will bring the Senate bill as is to the floor.

I hope to hell the votes aren't there to pass the the bill killing version. This is beyond ridiculous....

Take the goddamn deal on taxes, get it behind you, and then fight the spending cut battle in conjunction with the sequester deadline and the debt ceiling vote at the end of February....

It really doesn't take a genius to figure this out...

All I know is my payroll taxes are going up by 2%. Good thing I got a 3% raise.
Maybe some here think they should pay more in taxes but I don't. Those that think that way can always over pay if they choose too but somehow I doubt they do. :shrug
