I'll agree the way that's written could be misleading; I could have picked a better article for the OP.But by only mentioning his total worth, that makes it seem like he earned a lot more from the deal than he actually did.

In other words, this all amounts to nothing.
If you have evidence of something illegal or immoral, then say what it is. If you don't, you're only engaging in a baseless smear.
Reason is valuable only when it performs against the wordless physical background of the universe.

You're attempting to seize on the trivial and make it the central point....In other words, this all amounts to nothing.
The only thing that was misleading in the article was a poorly worded sentence that could give the impression that Gore may have made 300 million rather than 100 million from the sale. (Frankly I didn't even think about that, since the story was a week old when I started this thread, and I assumed the 100 million figure was public knowledge, at least to the folks here)
But if you think a guy who's made his very public and lucrative living trying to present himself as some sort of hero to the greenies hypocritically and cynically making only 100 million rather than 300 from an oil sheikdom makes all the difference, go right ahead....

Re: Al Jazeera Gore...or : "Earth In The Bank Balance"....
Do you agree that how Gore makes his money has no bearing on the merits of his argument that anthropogenic global warming is real and dangerous?
If so, what is the point of remarking how he makes his money?
If not, how are you not engaging in the tu quoque fallacy?

I believe that when a big time Liberal Icon reveals himself to be a dollar chasing hypocrite, it's every bit as worth remarking on, as it is when a conservative is exposed as a hypocrite. (Which of course has been done a number of times on this board.)

Al Gores' "do as I say, not as I do" attitude is what turns me off.
I don't resent him making as much money as he possibly can (who wouldn't want to do the same), but he should put up or shut up (then he can do all the money grabbing he wants).

Where exactly is the hypocrisy? Even if the transaction was as described, it would be the opposite of hypocrisy: Mr. Gore hoodwinked the "oil sheikhs" into paying him handsomely so that he can continue his efforts to reduce fossil fuel consumption. There may be some irony in that, but not the kind you were trying to find.Lord Jim wrote:I believe that when a big time Liberal Icon reveals himself to be a dollar chasing hypocrite, it's every bit as worth remarking on, as it is when a conservative is exposed as a hypocrite. As for "dollar chasing," what do you have against capitalism and profit? Has Al Gore ever said he renounces capitalism and profit? I thought that was pretty much the whole point of the current American economic system. Why do you hate America?
GAH!

I'm just about to order a gorgeous cast iron/enamel sink, in cobalt blue (and ignore that awful faucet in the picture, I've already got a lovely stainless steel Grohe pull down waiting to be installed):Sue U wrote:Glad I got the stainless steel sink, then.

Looks good, but I would not have the soap dispenser.
Re: Al Jazeera Gore...or : "Earth In The Bank Balance"....
I don't have the soap dispenser either. Just one elegant faucet (pic below) and the blue enamel (which is a bit darker than it appears here).

Nice faucet.
I need to replace the sink in my bathroom and will probably replace the faucet (and vanity) while I am doing the job. Forget Home Depot or lowes, go stright to Blackmans plumbing supply and showroom. Seems the faucets and fixtures home depot/lowes has are of a lesser grade than the same type that blackman has. Pay a little more but they are of better quality.
Good luck with your sink and fixture.
