Because the comment he responded too wasn't also grinding an ideological ax?
Should be here anyday year now.
That was a general comment on the slowness and inefficiency of government; a fact of life which exists without regard to party. And it was made by a person who's expressing frustration from dealing first hand directly with the situation referenced.

Rube's comment was just another installment in his endless "Republicans are the source of all evil" narrative.....

Huge difference...

Let me say this:

Rube has the unique ability to derail just about any thread in this place. He's to be pitied, for his biases have infiltrated every crevice of his being. Again, he is to be pitied. :(

Now back to the O.P.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

It's a serious situation:
Floodwaters ease after cyclone kills 6 in Australia

SYDNEY Floodwaters retreated and cleanup crews moved into eastern Australia after tropical cyclone Oswald killed six, forced thousands of people to flee their homes and caused millions of dollars of damage.

River levels dropped in the Queensland state capital, Brisbane, where more than 3,000 properties were inundated. In Bundaberg, the military helped the relief effort after more than 7,500 people were forced to flee, including patients from the local hospital.

Six people have been killed, including a 27-year-old man who was swept away by floodwaters and a 3-year-old boy struck by a falling tree, according to state police.

The Insurance Council of Australia declared a catastrophe for parts of Queensland and New South Wales, which together account for about half the nation’s economy.

The Insurance Council of Australia said 21,000 claims have been made so far with estimated insurance losses in the millions.

“We expect to see a surge of claims coming through now that we have assessors on the ground,” Robert Whelan, chief executive of the council, said in an interview with Bloomberg TV. “People are returning to their damaged properties so we do expect this to accelerate.”

Hope your sister gets power back soon.

I moved my generator from the back to the font of the shed last night just in case. involved pulling out the tractor, then taking the generator out of the shed, then pulling the tractor back into the shed, then putting the generator in front of the tractor. All that without touching the two motorcycles that are in there. GOD FORBID!!!

And I blame all politicians for the delay (not just rep but dems also as they had their own pork put into the aid also) in aid and I also blame all gov agencies (of which Obama, a dem, is in charge of, aka FEMA) for lack of help. My brother in law was somewhat involved in getting the trailors to NJ and NY and then the unions stepped in amd stopped the convoy. Meanwhile, the unions could not get the amount of trailers needed into the affected areas due to lack of resources. So, Staten Island and south shore people on Long Island got to spend the 10 degree cold snap in tents furnished by churches and other low level charities meanwhile FEMA and RedCross stood by and said "our hands are tied". Boehnhead and Reidless and the rest are all out if I have a chance to vote against them.
More meat, less pork I say to both parties.

Jeremy Clarkeson on visiting New Orleans a YEAR after the flooding, and seeing the number of people without housing, power, or any civilised services, was amazed how badly organised the US could be in helping it's own citizens, compared with it being so efficient at destroying houses and lives in other countries.

Reports say we had 1,419 mls of rain over 48hrs here and winds of 120mph+. Our power came back on yesterday but both of our pumps are fucked so we'll be without running water and sewage for another few days at least.
At least we can now restock fridge & freezer as everything had to be chucked.

I'm just about fucking over it at this stage...

Thanks keld.

I'm just feeling a little fucked off at the moment. I had to leave home two hours early today so that Pud and I could shower at a friends house before school/work and bund a load of washing in their machine. Luckily Pud's been a trooper throughout this whole mess. He's turning into a right little Aussie battler! :)

Little kids tend to rise to the occasion in situations like this...

I think it's because their lives are usually so structured and routine, that when something breaks the pattern up, (so long as they don't feel scared about it) they find it exciting.... 8-)

Glad to hear that you've survived, Sean, and that you're just about fucking over it!

BTW, I keep seeing the title of this thread and thinking of this song.

Good news!

As of this evening, we have running water again! :D

It gets better... Our house supply pump had shat itself so I had to spend over $400 on a new one (that's not the good bit...). I've got a new friend in Steve the Scouser who's just moved into our street and he has a mate who is a council plumber who installed the new pump for a $50 cashie!

So now I've got a pet plumber.

Congress, in general, has not failed to act. The speaker of the house has failed to act. Blaming on the institution what is the failure of the speaker is a lie.

Again!

No chance for the rest of the season as they've played each other twice in the league and the Dippers are out of all the cups. :D
We'll see what happens next season. At least we might get a sitcom out of it... ;)
