Gun crazy, the other side of the coin...

Post by Gob »

A 10-year-old Alexandria boy who brought a toy gun to school on Tuesday has been charged.

The boy, whose name is not being released, was charged as a juvenile with brandishing a weapon, police said.

On Monday, the boy showed the gun to at least one other student during a bus ride home from Douglas MacArthur Elementary School. He neglected to mention that the weapon was fake, Alexandria police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt said.

School staff notified police about the incident Tuesday morning, and police spoke to school administrators before the boy arrived. When the boy got to the school, authorities found a toy replica weapon with an orange tip in his backpack, police said.

The boy was taken into custody and was transported to a juvenile detention center. No one was injured during the incident.

That's been a law for a while now. Any idiot knows the orange means "TOY".

So a little orange paint on the barrel turns a real gun into a toy? Really.

Doesn't matter it WAS a toy once that was ascertained the rest should have flown out the window.

If it was a real weapon dressed up to look like a toy that would have been a gun of a different color...

You said that anything which looked like it had a little orange paint on the barrel was a toy. Meaning that the moment you establish this as a standard. any moron can paint the end of the barrel of a gun orange and disguise it as a toy.

So, it is what you said.

The problem has to be addressed honestly. "How do you deal with children bringing guns or simulated guns into schools?"

He said nothing of the sort...

So what's the explanation this time rube? Too stupid to be able to read what said or understand it, or too dishonest to describe what he said accurately?

To be fair, this is what oldr wrote:

It is reasonable to infer that what oldr meant is that a gun with an orange tip can be assumed to be a toy.

I think people may be allowing personal dislike to cloud their judgement here...
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Paint isn't going to duplicate the orange tip. The whole point of the "orange tips" is to simply illustrate how unreal the gun is. Any attempt to disguise a gun as a toy is likely to result in severe malfunction.

The idea that it could be duplicated with a little paint is disingenuous at best
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I never mentioned "paint". Take a walk down the toy aisle of Toys-R-Us or Walmart or Target or Kmart and you can see it is not a painted barrel but a barrel (or plug) molded in orange plastic.

For years now the law has it as toy guns need to be identifiable as toys. To that end our gov decided that orange (and I have seen purple) molded into the barrels of toy guns to show that they are toys. Of course any hoodlem could paint the barrel of his gun to either color to disguise the fact that he is indeed carrying a "real" gun, but why would some kid, bringing in his toy gun do that? If he wants it to look like a real gun, he would paint the barrel black.
now I mwntioned "paint"

rubato, you claim to be a gun owner/former owner/future owner. Glad you live on the west coast.
