NEMO'S AFTERMATH: GUIN'S NEIGHBORHOOD
NEMO'S AFTERMATH: GUIN'S NEIGHBORHOOD
I don't know if Guin has checked in yet, but here is a group of images taken in and around her community of Hull MA. I'm pretty sure that's her in the first photo, but I could be wrong. BTW -- I live in the western 'burbs of Philadelphia and I was forced to contend with at least a 1/2" of this nasty white shit. The agony and anguish of winter is never ending for me.

half an inch!?!?!?!?!?!?forced to contend with at least a 1/2" of this nasty white shit
That's not even worth mentioning. How about 2 and 1/2 FEET?!?!?!?!
And I think Guin's area was over 3 feet.
1/2 inch, bah

Ignore the man behind the curtain -- he knows absolutely nothing despite his constant data mining and attempts to prove otherwise. That may be my town, but its not my hood.

It snowed here in 1976, not much stuck to the ground.

True hardships aside, the occasional blizzard is - to me at least - as welcome a part of Winter as the occasional 50-degree (F) day. Schools and businesses shut down, you get a lot of nice exercise, see your neighbors and help them dig out, and so on. All in all, not bad at all.
An acquaintance of mine moved to New Haven on TUESDAY LAST (2/5), set herself up temporarily in a B&B, and started a new job on Wednesday. Although she is a native of Pittsburgh, she moved there from Miami (not actually Miami, but one of the surrounding towns).
What a shock. She has already signed a contract to purchase a small house there, a choice which I find as mystifying as the move itself.
But no second thoughts.

Last year was an anomoly. No snow, warm temps. This year is more like what we are used to. A week of teen tmps, a blizzard or heavy snow here and there. All in all not so bad, just a pain for a few days.
Now we have rain and with all the drains covered by friday/saturdays snow, we have flooding. We'll make it through.

I miss the snow.

In Cornwall or Wales?
Yeah right

Yeah right

As is typical for the last few year. Here on the coast we get the big snow and where I would go snowmobiling got only a few inches.Gob wrote:I miss the snow.
SORRY 'BOUT THAT, GUIN

There were no media images of exactly 146 available so I went with the closest photos in your town. I'm sure the snow just down the road was about the same depth, regardless. However, I did come across an “EROS” satellite image of you clearing off your porch. I'll post that as soon as I pull the frame.
I'm glad to see you're out and about. Snow doesn't slow you people up as much as it does with the timid down here.

Re: NEMO'S AFTERMATH: GUIN'S NEIGHBORHOOD
My sheds roof collapsed yesterday (tin shed) after it rained all day and the snow soaked it all up. I have two motorcycles, a garden tractor and my generator in there (along with various chairs and battery maintainers for the bikes and tracor). Spent a few hours trying to shovel the snow off the caved in roof. Hopefully will get that done tonight, then I can try and push up the roof with the floor jack and a few 2x4's. Calling in to homeowners insurance today. Don't know the damage but I was able to croutch down and start one of the bikes and the tractor, so the motors are ok. My bikes wind screen is bent down but doesn't appear to be cracked or broken. The tractor seems to be holding up the middle of the roof and it probably saved the bikes which were near the walls on either side of it.
I had the seat of the tractor tilted forward on the steering wheel so I could access the battery and put the battery maintainer on it. So that's the point of contact with the roof.
The generator is close to teh back wall which is still upright and from what I can see is untouched.
I have to check the battery chargers and the battery jumper and see if they are still working. I was able to remove them from the shed without too much trouble.
I don't give a crap about the chairs and umbrellas
IT just had to rain after 30 inches of snow!?!?!?!??

Re: NEMO'S AFTERMATH: GUIN'S NEIGHBORHOOD
I know what I will be doing this weekend.
Talked to the insurance people. I have $1000 deductable on the home owners and $500 deductable on each of the motorcycles. Probably not that much in damage. Shed cost me between $500 and $700 can't remember. We'll see this weekend.
I think I'll build a wooden shed this time around, forget those tin sheds.
I do consider myself lucky, some peoples roofs caved in on their houses. Also a bowling alley in Smithtown had their roof cave in.

o_n_w. MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER THIS
The metal sheds are usually prefab and easier to maintain. Why not screw in a few strategically placed 4-by's inside along the ribs for some added strength? Hey, just a thought. Good luck.

I like the sunshine after the storm. I agree with Dave: if you live in a snow zone, having a big snowfall every year or two is to be expected and enjoyed to the extent possible.

I plan on the 2x4's to last me until spring. Then I am building a wood shed. Norther tool has all the hardware for one all I have to do is buy the wood. I should have enough shingles left over from when I did my roof a bunch of years ago. I think I might even have enough left over siding from when I sided the house.RayThom wrote:The metal sheds are usually prefab and easier to maintain. The floor is already there as I got the flooring kit with the shed and it's covered with 3/4 inch outdoor plywood.
