So What Have You Gotten Your Honeys For Valentines Day

Post by Lord Jim »

I bought mine an ankle bracelet, (she's keen on them) and she bought me a bottle of cologne...(I shell out $300 clams, and she spends 60 bucks...typical of Valentines Day.... God, I hate this Hallmark Holiday... 8-))

and a box of Godiva chocolates...

And we're going to have dinner at Ruth Chris (Personally I can't stand the place...I don't mind spending 35$ for the entrees, but nine bucks on top of that for a baked potato , an order of mac and cheese, or creamed spinach?

(It's not the money, it's the principle of the thing...nine bucks for a baked potato? Why don't they just get themselves a mask and a gun and make an honest job of it ? And I haven't even gotten to the wine.... There are 10 classy Steak Houses in this city better than that clip joint)

But Ruth Chris has "special" meaning to her because it's the first "expensive" place I took her to, some 23 years ago...

When I was young and stupid, and wanted to impress her, and didn't know much about San Fran...

So I guess I'm stuck... :?

Our anniversary and Valentine's day are in the same month so I really made out. Roses, diamond earrings, a new computer, a new printer, and a new router. Today, the actual day, has been a bust. I had an early MD appt. (Cataract surgery, one eye only, On the 22nd.) His ex step daughter is getting married tonight. Since hubby raised her since she was 3 she wanted him to give her away. He is resisting my urging to say, at that moment when the minister asks, "who gives this woman away?", "The psycho bitch and I do." His ex is horrid. Idiot airhead girl that she, stepdaughter, is everything is a freaking mess. I may write up the story to share later after my head stops hurting. No dysfunctional bitterness here, no sir not a bit.

Last Saturday we went to Fogo de Chao. Can't say I cared for it much, but man was happy because man love meat.

Contemplating a manicure for my hands.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Nothing, we didn't bother...

Going to Frankenmuth overnight dinner shopping and time away from the Kracken
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

I got her a purple Orchid plant.
She got me a card.
I really do not like valentines day.

My brother and his wife are not fond of it either. Both their daughters were concieved on valentines day (born November 13th and 14th) so they stay away from each other that day.

To quote a local haberdasher "You're gonna LIKE the way you look".

But as a side note, why do they use acrylate-based polymers for the prosthetic lenses? Acrylates all turn yellow over time on exposure to sunlight. Wearing sunglasses might help.

Well I told her that just as last year I cooked a wonderful Chinese dinner and dessert for her, this year I had another meal in mind but of course it would be after the day because on Thursdays we have cell group in town. Saturday. So yesterday I of course did nothing except say "HVD" (hmm, that looks just wrong) with a hug and kiss. We got to cell group about 5pm and she said she'd like to go for a walk. When we got home last night, around 9:55 (just in time for the Tottenham/Lyons kickoff) she produced a bottle of chocolate liquer and said "HVD", although I was a bit unsure of the H. And I knew, yes I knew that I was toast.

This a.m. I awoke crisp, blackened and brittle - and of course asked why was I in the doghouse; was it because I hadn't given her anything on ValDay and did she not remember I was cooking a special meal on Saturday as promised?

Well, since she'd invited our friends and their children over for dinner on Saturday, a meal which was already prepared and in the fridge, how could I possibly be cooking a meal huh? and she decided it was just me blowing smoke. (Actually I think she forgot the meal promise as I never heard that Marthinus and Jess were coming over THIS particular weekend).

Then I asked her if she'd bought the liquer not as a gift but as a weapon of mass vengeance designed to make me feel like shit (mission accomplished) and it went a bit down hill from there.

So yeah.... we got each other pain and aggravation for Valentine's Day

Meade

But the redeeming news is that this guy scored twice (infinitely better than I)

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Nice try with the 'dinner in the future' thing, but forgetting that the woman of the house ALWAYS keeps the social calendar is grounds for a mild beating right there.

If you feel bad about the liquor you can send it to me. I can drink it guilt-free! You can tell her it went to christianize a heathen.

Haha, so was my youngest! (Following what is evidently a family tradition, my oldest was conceived on Black Friday.)

For VD, the spousal unit and I went to lunch together and in the evening attended our son's performance with his high school jazz band (he's the bassist) at the school district's annual fest -- 3 middle school and 2 high school ensembles. Always the underdog in years past, this year his band kicked ass, and sounded at least as good if not better than the rich kids from across town. They did a Buddy Rich number (the drummer, who also plays in my son's heavy metal band, was awesome), Maynard Ferguson's Cruisin for a Bluesin (sax section and soprano sax soloist were outstanding) and a song from Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band (trumpet soloist, who has always been good, really knocked it out of the park).
GAH!

When she was in high school my daughter played the sax in the jazz band.
it's been years since she played, but she still plays the piano.

I am trying to get hte wife to honor these holidays the day after they actually occur. Much money can be saved and the sentiment might be better.

I worked 13 hours and Liz worked 11...we didn't do anything on Valentine's Day. We're going to dinner tonight; weather permitting, The Steak Loft in Mystic, CT.

We used to go where we had our first date, but it closed a while ago. :( Too bad, because I liked the place. (And it was a hell of a lot closer than Mystic!)
