I just had a real close call on the way into work this am. A car right in front of me spun out on the expressway barely missed him which would likely started a pile up.

I know that thought. Many years a go the Raiders (I think they were in LA at the time) were playing the Redskins in the Super bowl (Marcus Allen time period). I bought a couple of boxes in the pool ($100 per) and figured I would never win. Turned out I won the 2nd quarter (the half which paid more than the end of the first or third quarter), the third quarter and the final. Thousands and thousands of dollars. Helped my down payment on my house.

I have not played any pool on the Super Bowl (or any football game) since.

inopportune time to notice a personal quirk.

When bored driving I put my elbow on the sill and rest my head on my fist. I realized this after punching myself repeatedly in the head after getting bored on a particularly bumpy dirt road.

I am so glad this instant message didn't go through to my (female) engineer:

I know I've mentioned this before, but Joe Theismann (his real last name was pronounced "Theesman"; he changed the pronunciation when he was in college so it would rhyme with "Heisman") has really become a pain in my prostate....

I was hoping that after the football season that the "Super Beta Prostrate" company would find someone else (anyone else) to hawk their snake oil, but nay nay....

Apparently this four star phony has been so effective at promoting this fakir remedy, that the company behind it is now running four or five new commercials featuring this insufferable ass....

(Okay, I admit it; I can't stand Theismann; never could...I thought the 'Skins should have traded him when he was playing second string to Kilmer...in all his years with the Redskins he had one decent season, and as a game announcer, he made Howard Cosell look like an expert. )

But to be subjected to detailed descriptions of his bathroom issues, over and over and over, is more than anyone should be expected to stand.... :arg

Surely there's something in the Geneva Conventions about this....

I'll bet his prostate clenched pretty hard the night before the Super Bowl against the Raiders when Shari caught him in bed in his hotel room with Cathy Lee....

I think we ought to put Theesman's commercials on a continuous loop, (maybe throw in Jimmy Johnson's Extenze commercial and Robert Vaughn's Helsinki Formula bit) and blast them at our remaining guests at Gitmo...

They'll sing like canaries; they'll beg to be water boarded instead....

Hate Angie's List. And the thought that you can get impartial ratings from it are silly, especially with respect to professionals such as doctors who are prohibited by law from responding to bad reviews, unlike contractors who regularly protect themselves by getting bad reviews eliminated or limited.

Years ago I had an idea to start an Angies List type of site. The difference was that I would list contractors/tree services/concrete/Landscape/General Labor people that did not use illegal alien labor. In my area I think I only found one.

Another Lord Jim kitchen tip:

When making coffee while still drowsy in the early morning, it's best to have good lighting turned on in the kitchen....

This way, you can avoid putting ground chili powder rather than ground cinnamon in your coffee....

It was cumin for me.

Love cumin, not in coffee, with lots of milk!

I drink my coffee black, so as long as coffee made it into the coffee pot, I am good to go once it stop brewing. I usually start the pot then take Apollo outside to see if the newspaper has arrived (it's his job to go bring it in). then I have a cigarette (yes I still smoke) while Apollo either brings the paper to the back stoop or waits for it to be delivered. Then we go in and I have my coffee, black and strong.
Apollo gets a milkbone for bringing in the paper.
