Could you please post a graph that tracks the amount of people who keep dogs in fenced yards and also take them camping?

And maybe another that indicates how many dog owners that keep their dogs fenced take their dogs for walks?

Please enlighten me.

It's pretty obvious what happened here, if you apply "Rubeian Reasoning"

First, rube, as he frequently does, decided to post a gratuitous, unprovoked insult directed at Strop for starting a thread about a topic that His Rubeness deemed unworthy of discussion.

He tried to make this insult in a passive aggressive way in the form of a sort of analogy or parable, telling a little story about a dog dragging something foul home to show his master and then wagging his tail about it. (In his analogy, the "dog" is Strop and the "dirty and smelly " thing is the story Strop chose to post about.)

But instead of making his insulting analogy about some hypothetical dog, he decided to make it about some supposedly real dog that he owned, and there's where his problems began....

A little later in the thread, when folks started talking about dogs that are allowed to roam, rube saw an opportunity to slam some more people, (folks who let there dogs roam) so he reflexively did so, apparently forgetting (since it was made up) that the story he told to convey his initial insult landed him squarely in that category of folks that he was now criticizing as "jerks"....

And now here's where rube really puts his rubeness on full display....

When this is pointed out to him, rube, being rube, rather than admit what he had done initially and say something like, "I wasn't really referring to an actual dog of mine, I was making an analogy." (which he doesn't do of course, because rube never admits to screwing up) he digs himself an even deeper hole by proceeding to concoct a ridiculous pseudo-explanation, the taking the dog for a walk and camping thing.

Which as Strop points out, doesn't even make any sort of minimal amount of sense. (Who the hell is going to be stupid enough to let some dog they are walking drag something "dirty and smelly" all the way back to their house? It makes absolutely no sense.) and of course throwing out some additional insults to boot.

It's rube getting his karma comeuppance yet again; he starts off trying to hurl out a gratuitous insult, and winds up only making himself look absurd.

It is of course, a very familiar pattern with him...Rube is kind of like Wile E. Coyote; every time he tries to drop an anvil or a safe on someone else, it winds up landing on him instead... every time he tries to blow somebody else up, the dynamite winds up going off in his face...it's part of the on-going amusement factor he brings to the board...

You know, rube's apparent belief that he should be the arbiter of what other people should post about, is inspiring me to consider putting a little time aside to look up every single, lurid, titillating, sensationalist story in the news I can find, and starting threads about them....

I would encourage others to do so as well... 8-)

Actually Econo, it doesn't take that much time...

At this point I'm so familiar with the drill, just a couple of minutes is all that's required.... 8-)

It took me longer to type it ...

I love this, it's like one of those "timelapse photgraphy clips", one of a guy repeatedly shooting himself in the foot in slo-mo....

He does indeed...

Now he'll either finally give up on this one and move on to light up an exploding cigar in his own mouth about something else, (rube is quite talented in this regard; it's not everybody who can fire a pistol at their feet with one hand while smacking themselves in the face with a pie with the other...he'd have been a big hit on The Ed Sullivan Show...) or.....

He'll return to this thread yet again to let us know how stupid we all must be to not understand how his "explanation" makes perfect sense....

What he will not do...

Absolutely will not do.....

Is admit the bleeding obvious; that he fucked up....

I've probably posted this before, but my dog is trained to go get hte newspaper in the morning. Now if I could only train the paper delivery guy to throw the newspaper over the fence, I wouldn't have to go outside at 5:30am.
Apollo gets a little anxious when he knows the newspaper is out there and he can't go get it.

So we got out this morning and the paper isn't there. We go back in and I am in the middle of the shower and Apollo hears the guys car and the paper hit the ground. He goes nuts barking and jumping around waking up everyone else in the house so someone can let him out to get the paper. My wife lets him out and he runs to the fence and as usual the paper is on teh other side of the fence. So stands there staring at the paper barrking his head off waking up the whole neighborhood. I run out with only my pj's to get him the paper.
What have I created?!?!? :loon

Having been a newspaper delivery guy once (long ago, as a teenager) I can attest to the fact that newspaper delivery guys can be much harder to train than dogs. But they can be trained. (They usually respond well to treats, i.e., tips... ;) )

In the Chicago area--and I assume in most other places, including Lawn Guy Land--if you subscribe to a particular newspaper, you have no choice of carrier; that's up to the paper. (Just like if you subscribe to a magazine which comes through the mail, you have no choice of mail carrier.)

Time was, when the newspaper boy (girls later on) was a kid you knew from the neighborhood and you would ask him to put the paper in a particular spot and he would do it without knowing if a better tip was in store for him. Now there is no newspaper boy. There is this guy in a car who flies down teh street chucking papers out of his car. My son was doing it for a while and the set up is there is one guy who has multiple routes and hires others to run those routes. There is no "collection" at the end of the week, it is paid by credit/debit card or check in the mail. They do put an envelope in Sundays paper for tips to be mailed to a PO Box but my son said those go to the route "owner" not to the actual people who deliver the route. Personal interaction with your paper person does not happen anymore.

Yet another learning lesson for the young'uns that disappeared.

If he (yes its a he, I have been there when the paper flies out of his car window) wants any kind of tip he can first, SLOW DOWN, second he can stop and say HI. I am standing out there at 5:30am most days as he drives by. I am not mailing in a tip.

I have always gotten the local newspaper (Newsday), delivered. I know I could get all my info on the internet, but something about eating lunch and reading the newspaper (I do not have a smart phone) is a calming and familiar thing to me, even if the news gets my blood pressure up.

Necrophilia to paper delivery style, not bad drift.... :D

I wonder if rubato will come and correct us about how papers are actually delivered.
