Burn brightly briefly

Ok, name the bands who made ONE great album then vanished.

Just one album, no more.

4 non blondes.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

How do you define one album? I know many bands with a few to many prior albums that nobody knew of until the made that "break-out" album and promptly self destructing. Case in point The Clay People made many albums as a very mediocre goth band then suddenly came their self titled album that was nothing short of groundbreaking and shortly after broke up

Johnny and the Dicks

(and I know it's true because they performed at my house once and my first wife and I became the proud owners of one version of the first album. It contains no music whatsoever and no LP for that matter)

(shame that the Dicks, including Karen K Karen Karen, outnumbered the audience two to one - me, the wife, the music critic from the Cleveland Plain Dealer and two lesbian friends of ours.)

There was a Welsh band called "Neutron Star" had one, self titled album which was brilliant, prog/jazz/spacerock.

Then they collapsed.

edited to add;

Looked them up, it would appear they released two albums!

That's my point my record collection is filled with bands that self destructed upon either "making it" or just on the verge of "making it"

Genuine "one album wonders" may be a rarity then.

I've just been having a look at Keld's link. It's daft really, they've listed lots of collaborations between acts who've each released shed loads of albums and left out Derek and the Dominos.

Gob. ONE GREAT ALBUM OR...

Post by RayThom »

... only one album that happened to be great?

I usually go with "Boston" when this kind of musical trivia comes up. But on the boulevard of broken dreams I'm sure there has been hundreds, if not thousands over the years. So, who's your pick?
