If what you are worried about is security, Jim, it seems like it should be no harder to maintain papal security in the Domus Sanctae Marthae than in the Apostolic Palace. It's surely not a "hotel" in the sense that a Hilton or Marriott is; it's not available to random guests or the general public. This seems more akin to the POTUS opting to live in Blair House rather than the White House. I guess it's a significant symbolic statement, and time will tell whether Francis eventually decides that he needs a larger living space, or a living space directly above his office.
