Those idiots were incredibly lucky. All that guy was after was to put them in a position where they would not be able to harass him anymore. There could have been two dead bodies at the end of that road and no one would have known who did it.

Although as an extra touch, I would have made them take off all of their clothes and told them they would find them with their keys when they got up to the main road. And then have left only the keys.
