What A Kickass Gorgeous Day....

Post by Lord Jim »

It's so beautiful around here today, it would be a crime to stay inside and engage in our usual snarl fest....(I'll get back to that tomorrow...)

The mercury hit 84 today in the micro climate in our burg....it's fallen back a bit now to 76...with a gentle, Caribbean type breeze blowing...

I just got back from taking the lad and the pooches down to the beach for a romp....(they're all pooped right now and having a little lie down...)

One of the things I most like about working for myself (aside from having the most understanding, logical and reasonable boss on earth) is having the flexibility to be able to re-arrange things and being able to drop everything I'm doing to take advantage of a day like today....(we don't get many of them here; when we do, you need to get out and enjoy them)

When Tati gets off from school in about an hour, she and Kelly are going to head down to the beach to work on their tans....

In the meantime I'll be getting dinner ready; we're going to have shish kabob, rice pilaf and key lime pie for dessert...(in anticipation of today's weather yesterday I bought about four pounds of round steak that has been marinating since yesterday afternoon....whenever I barbecue shish kabob I always like to make a lot of it because it makes a great easy snack or lunch for the next few days if you just pop a skewer or two in the microwave and zap it for a minute)

Jimmy has a job in this process too...

Like most little kids he always wants to help, but also like most little kids, his ambition frequently outstrips his abilities....

And since it would probably be irresponsible to hand a three and a half year old with three and a half year old motor skills and a three and a half year old attention span a razor sharp knife and let him slice the tomatoes, bell peppers and onions, ( or have him put those along with the meat and the mushrooms on the pointed skewers) we've found a task for him that he's good at and enjoys...

Whenever we're cooking beef, (steaks, roasts whatever) we always lay it out for him to take a few whacks with the tenderizing mallet; (whether the meat really needs it or not) it makes him feel like he's helping, and he also gets to work off a little of his energy...

It's a win-win... 8-)

But now you'll have to excuse me...

Again, in anticipation of today's weather, I also picked up a big bag of ice, Mai Tai mix and a couple of pineapples, and the blender is calling me....

In fact it's fairly shouting at me.... 8-)

Jim....

I envy you. Not only do you live near the beach, but you get to share it with your kids. Mine are all grown up and don't have any time for me anymore.

btw: Our chum rubato is in rare form today. :ok

Enjoy yourselves and careful crossing The Great Highway.

ps - - sharp knife dept.

This might be counter intuitive but we always made sure our kids had sharp knives when any cutting need to be done. There is nothing more dangerous and a pain in the ass than a dull knife or person. :nana

Good on you LordJim. It's been pretty nice here on Long Island all week. Hope it stays the same for the weekend. Some of us are slaves to employer and not able to just "do as we please when we want. :(

Nice here...about 70 degrees, no wind. Beautiful day for a drive...so Liz and I decided to check out the scooter I was considering in New Hampshire. I forgot how much I love mountain roads! :) And WOW, the CHP tires on the Caddy stick! (Too bad they're discontinued and I think I have the last two sets in the country!)

Wonder what that dude in the lowered Civic thought when that big chrome grille just wouldn't get smaller in the mirrror. :D

We have finally started getting some consistent spring-like weather. After enduring snow and ice storms into late April, it is a welcome change.

Nice sunny weekend but it was a little chilly. Took the MC out for a ride with my son and it was a little cold. Good thing I wore jacket and had my gloves with me. 65mph wind chill tends to do that.

It's a nice temperate Monday (cooled of from 90 degree weather) and it's time to pop open a tall cold one*

Discovered a downside to going straight from March weather to May weather: my left arm is REALLY sunburned. OWWWWWWWWWWWW!

After many lovely, warm -- 90s lately -- sunny days, it's darkly overcast now, and although I haven't seen any lightning, there's been quite a bit of rolling thunder. Nice contrast, and it helps keep the gardens from broiling, but I'm looking forward to the return of the sun tomorrow.

Lovely shots, Gob, but tell me, are there no people left on your continent?

Weather here today is expected to be sunny, 85 F. Nice change after a cool, mostly drizzly week.

Thanks Sue, very kind of you. There are people, but;
a) I don't like people.
b) Not where I walk the dogs there aren't.
c) I'm crap at portraits!

These are the only guys I want to see when out walking....

Just great. Now we'll begin to see Gob starring in his landscape pictures.

I've got a name for them....

Gobscapes.

(come to think of it, even the ones without him in it should be called that..)
