Ban soccer, killers

Post by liberty »

Ban soccer, if there was no soccer this poor guy would still be alive. Soccer has no constitutional protections , ban it. They are just a bunch of knuckle dragging brutes.

.
.......Utah soccer referee dies after attack by teenage player

A Utah soccer referee who suffered head injuries when he was punched in the face by a teenage player has died, authorities said.

The 17-year-old player struck the referee, Ricardo Portillo, in the head on April 27 after Portillo penalized the teenager during a soccer game in a Salt Lake City suburb, according to the Unified Police of Greater Salt Lake.

Portillo, 46, died late on Saturday at an area hospital, the police said in a statement posted on the department's website.

The player, whose name was withheld because he is a juvenile, was upset because Portillo had issued him a yellow card, police said. A yellow card is a caution for actions that range from a foul to unsportsmanlike conduct.

Portillo, of Salt Lake City, was taken by ambulance to a hospital to be treated for what was initially believed to be minor injuries. It was later determined that Portillo had suffered more substantial head trauma.

He lapsed into a coma and remained in critical condition at Intermountain Medical Center in a Salt Lake City suburb until he died at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

The teenager, also of Salt Lake City, was arrested two days after the incident and booked on a charge of aggravated assault, police said. He is being held at a juvenile detention center.

He faces formal charges this week, when additional charges will be weighed in connection with the referee's death, police said.

Portillo's daughter, Johana Portillo, told a news conference on Thursday that the player "just came out of nowhere" and punched her father.

"I know if he spends time in jail, like forever, it's not enough," she said. "It's not going to bring my daddy back."

Officials with the American Youth Soccer Organization, the nation's largest soccer association for players aged 4 to 18, said they did not know of another such incident in the history of youth soccer in the United States.

Portillo was refereeing a match put on by a league called La Liga Continental, which is not affiliated with the American Youth Soccer Organization.

No, silly lib person!

We should ban 17 year old teenagers.

Banning soccer would just lead to more gun violence.

You've got to learn how to focus on the real problem.

When soccer balls are outlawed, only baseball players will punch referees...

Yes, old mate I was making a joke, a bit of sarcasm, in order to make a point. But, I suspect if one could compare the statistics between lawful gun owners and soccer players the death rate would be about the same. Before we ban any particular gun let first make a law making it illegal for felons to own and possess fire arms as well minors outside of the supervision of their parents. Then set about removing gun from the possession of those individuals and see if it makes a difference.

You're a fucking idiot!
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

He's correct, Sean.

Lawful gun owners and soccer players do have an equal death rate.

It has actually been documented that both soccer players and lawful gun owners eventually die from various causes.

Sean, the law abiding gun owner is not the problem in the US. I live in an area where almost everyone owns guns but I have never known anyone to be killed with a gun. However, I have known people to be killed in auto accidents; it would be more logical to out law cars. The vast majority of gun violence happens in a few small area by small number of people. If these individual could be disarmed or neutralized our crime rate could be at the same level as Britain. I have seen news programs where intercity residence were interview; almost everyone in the group had know someone to be killed with a gun and some had known several people to be killed. If you want to do something about gun violence those neighborhoods is where you should do it.

What could be done:

*These areas could be flood with national guardsmen as observer.

*Nationhood watch organization could set up.

*Surveillance cameras could be set up in these areas.

*A law could be passed and enforced making it illegal to belong to criminal gangs or to associate with the members.

*The police could be given the power to ease drop on identified gang members.

*Some police could be taken out of there cars place on the streets with metal detecting wands that they would use search for gun.

These special measures would end when children could play in front of their homes without fear of being killed in drive by shooting.

Some of these measures might be considered a violation of the right to privacy but as someone here said there are no absolute rights. And beside there is no prescribe right to privacy in the Constitution.

Stop and Frisk has been working pretty well in NYC. So when something works what happens, they stop it (or at least scale it way back). :shrug

Persons have wanted it in Oakland but the powers that be have dug in their high heels against it.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
