On Tuesday, according to Vatican Radio, Pope Francis delivered this stunning pronouncement:
The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! "Father, the atheists?" Even the atheists. Everyone! And this Blood makes us children of God of the first class! We are created children in the likeness of God and the Blood of Christ has redeemed us all! And we all have a duty to do good. And this commandment for everyone to do good, I think, is a beautiful path towards peace. If we, each doing our own part, if we do good to others, if we meet there, doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by little, we will make that culture of encounter: we need that so much. We must meet one another doing good. "But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!" But do good: we will meet one another there.
(Emphasis added.)
Yep. The Vicar of Christ on Earth has declared that God has redeemed everyone.
Turns much of RCC theology on its head. And long overdue.
Reason is valuable only when it performs against the wordless physical background of the universe.
it is not uncommon to hear Jesus's death on the cross was for the redemption for all sin. Taken with that in mind what the Pope has said isn't that odd.
Redemption and Salvation are two different (but related) concepts.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Guru Nanak's teachings are founded not on a final destination of heaven or hell, but on a spiritual union with God which results in salvation.
What if he's right?
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
One guy says "this is the way to salvation", another one says his way it the way, Joe Guru says "only I Have the way to god, and you're fucked if you eat pagan easter ham," somebody says stick a firecracker up your arse and pray real hard to get to heaven, the Jatravartid People of Viltvodle Six firmly believe that the entire universe was sneezed out of the nose of a being called The Great Green Arkleseizure. They live in perpetual fear of the time they call The Coming Of The Great White Handkerchief.
It's all just bollocks isn't it?
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
But any pronouncement by the catholic, or any other church for that matter, leaves me scratching my head and wondering where we went wrong as a species that we fall for such bullshit.

As sincere as I can be at this moment, but one look at the world events will test anyone's faith.
If I fell for the bullshit, I know I'll come out of it smelling like a rose.
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
the thing that you are missing here Gob is that this is not a proclamation of salvation (even though people seem to be mistaking it as such) it's a proclamation about doing good. (Something you've been known to tout now and again) it seems to me that you've got your panties in a bunch just because you don't like the messenger.

He started it.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, redemption "includes the whole process of supernatural life from the first reconciliation to the final salvation." And the Pope says that we are all redeemed. So ....
Reason is valuable only when it performs against the wordless physical background of the universe.
Yes redemption is separate than salvation. Redemption is a mechanism for the removal sin (or at least the penalty of sin) and is passive. Salvation is the the active acceptance of that redemption and of God.
