I'm surprised that more people have responded to the "Topic Redacted" thread than to this.

Dales, without trying to sound harsh not everyone has to be reminded to remember...
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
Re: Today IS......
Yeah, I know.......especially at this here BBS - but the entire country treats this day as one large fun fest instead of a day of rememberance.
Just letting off a little steam.

Re: Today IS......
Well, you don't have to worry about it being National Barbecue Day here in 'Frisco....
At the moment it's 52 degrees and raining....
Like I said when we discussed this last year:
Though since 9/11 I have definitely seen an uptick in terms of trying to recall the true spirit of Memorial Day, the reality is that we're never going to go back to the time when it was purely a day of Solemn Remembrance for those who sacrificed for our freedoms...
It's still also going to continue to be the unofficial kickoff off for summer in the US, with the pool and amusement park openings, barbecues, and store sales...
And that's okay too...
Part of why these sacrifices were made was so we could have a society where we could enjoy these kinds of things...
Look, if we can multitask our holidays to the point where we can have Jesus and Santa sharing the same holiday, surely we can have a holiday where we both remember those who sacrificed for our freedoms, and we also go out and enjoy some of those freedoms....
