I'm betting the ultra-PC BBC will make the next Dr Who a black woman.Doctor Who star Matt Smith is to leave his role as the Doctor at the end of this year, the BBC has announced.
After four years as the Time Lord on the BBC One show, viewers will see Smith's Doctor regenerate in the 2013 Christmas special.
The 30-year-old actor said working on the show had been "the most brilliant experience".
Doctor Who marks its 50th anniversary in November with a special episode, which Smith has already filmed.
The BBC said Smith's "spectacular exit" was yet to be revealed and would be "kept tightly under wraps".
Smith first stepped into the Tardis as the 11th Doctor in 2010. Taking over from David Tennant, he was the youngest actor to play the role.
Speaking after the announcement, he said he was "incredibly proud" of what the show had achieved over the last four years under Steven Moffat, the show's lead writer and executive producer.
Smith also thanked fans around the world for their "truly remarkable" dedication to the show.

Re: Who goes there?
Awwww I'm a little bit gutted. I've grown to love Matt Smith over the last few years.
What about the brilliant Ben Whishaw as his replacement.

I'm sorry to see that as well; I really thought he was coming into his own in the role...

He seems to be easily the popular favorite, at least according to this very unscientific poll:What about the brilliant Ben Whishaw as his replacement.

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

An actor famous for his expletive-ridden tirades in a show about spin doctors looks almost certain to be the next Doctor Who after bookmakers suspended betting on the cult role.
Sources close to the show say just 10 people know the actor's identity but it will be announced in a television special on Sunday in the UK - vwhich will be broadcast live in Australia on Monday morning.
Bookmakers William Hill suspended betting on the next Doctor Who when Peter Capaldi became the 5/6 favourite.
Capaldi is famed for his foul-mouthed role as Malcolm Tucker, a political "enforcer" in the television show The Thick of It and its movie spin-off In the Loop. He is a life-long fan of the show and as a teenager wrote a letter about Daleks to the magazine Radio Times .
The next Doctor will be announced on Doc-tor Who Live: The Next Doctor, a half-hour show, presented by Zoe Ball. It will feature interviews with Smith and executive producer Steven Moffat, celebrity fans and some actors who have also played the ever-changing science-fiction hero.
“The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who's taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking 12,” Mr Moffat said in a statement.

Re: Who goes there?
Even though it probably won't be, I am loving the comments online about Peter Capaldi being the new Doctor.
So far "Piss off you overgrown pepperpot. If you mess with me, I'll rip that stupid sink plunger off you and shove it so far up your arse that you really will need a doctor!"
And
"Oi, Dalek. Stuff your lollipop up your shiny metal arse, you mincing tin twat!"
Are my favourites.

Good.
I did have fears of it being a black, disabled, lesbian, single-parent, actor.

At 55, he is the same age as William Hartnell when he was cast in the role as the first Doctor in 1963.

In case you haven't heard of Malcolm Tucker
Two of my favourite lines in TV ever are in this montage...
"Come the fuck in, or fuck the fuck off"
"Don't you EVER call me a bully, I am so much WORSE than that"
