Hmmm....

Now let's see....

What are the odds I'm going to take two hours out of my life to watch Fry and Hitchens discuss the Catholic Church....

I'd say just about as good as the odds that I'll settle in to watch a cricket match while listening to Leonard Cohen and snacking on broccoli smeared with Marmite and washing it down with a warm beer....

No, I take that back...

The odds of that happening are better....

You could always watch Fry's eight minutes in the OP Jim...

Maybe later...

Though I doubt very seriously that he has anything to say on the subject that I haven't heard before...

Probably not, but he does say it so well.

"Weak" is playing the man, not the ball.

LMAO

Like I'm going to be lectured by somebody who can't even be "bothered" to read the articles he uses for his for his own sources, and finds it to be too much "trouble" to take two seconds to check his facts so he could avoid looking like a complete ignoramus over and over on a multitude of subjects....

It doesn't get much weaker than that....

Go have yourself another bowl of leaded rice....

I'll enjoy Stephen Fry on QI and appreciate his sometimes exquisite taste in suits and ties. I will not bother to listen to his doubtlessly witty and perhaps even cogent criticism of the Roman church hierarchy. AFAIK, they both share the same propensity.

It doesn't take much insight or intelligence to fill an afternoon with vacuous criticisms of an organization that has been a dominant player in Western Civilization for about two thousand years. In a similar vein, it would be easy to compile a collection of horrible golf shots by Tiger Woods, or ridiculous gaffes by Our Beloved President, or absurd awards given by, say, the Nobel Prize committee.

Mature human beings - of which this person is obviously not one - tend to look toward a more balanced viewpoint.

I suspect this twit has never done an altruistic act in his life, wouldn't know virtue from evil, and could justify anything short or matricide with a convincing set of arguments.

Neither he nor his "insights" are worth a warm bucket of spit. The most incompetent, blithering priest I've ever met is worth about a dozen of his sort.

I'll take it you haven't watched the clip then Dave.

I'll take it you still haven't watched the clip then Dave.

“We judge ourselves by our ability to make a difference. Not noisily or with sanctimonious complacency, but deep inside, in that still small place where we really talk to ourselves.” – Stephen Fry

Writer, actor, comedian and doer of good, Stephen Fry lives in his London SW1 flat and his Norfolk house when not traveling. An England conservationist through the Healthy Planet charity, Fry has given his mother an adopted hectare of Cambridgeshire Fen, a project restoring more than 9,000 acres of fenland habitat in Cambridgeshire, helping to conserve one of Britain’s most beautiful and biodiverse areas.

As a compassionate, Fry works with others to transform the understanding and treatment of bipolar disorder, as the Special Ambassador to EQUILIBRIUM - The Bipolar Foundation. Every year Stephen is delighted to invite all his Terrence Higgins Trust “Friends for Life” and “Associate Friends” to his summer Gala Dinner and to a special Christmas party as a supporter of making a difference to all those lives shattered by HIV. He also understands the importance of promoting the spoken word for all by presenting The Listening Books Award for the Spoken Word at The Guardian Hay Festival, providing a fantastic selection of high-quality audiobooks to over 7,000 people across the United Kingdom who find it difficult or impossible to read due to illness or disability.

A UK “national treasure”, Fry boasts over 1.3M Twitter followers (Jan 2010); the response from his offer to kiss the highest online bidder to raise money towards helping the endangered Asian elephant through the charity Elephant Family caused a website to crash with one Tweet to his then 198,830 followers.

Using Twitter’s potential for fundraising, Stephen Fry has sparked thousands in donations to an otherwise dormant campaign supporting the development of speech, language and communication skills in all children. More than £7,000 has been donated to the children’s communication charity I Can via its Adopt A Word campaign since the actor/writer tweeted about his own adoption of the word ‘Wordy’. Clare Horwood, head of individual giving at I Can, said the charity was surprised by the response. “It went from basically dead, because we weren’t doing any marketing activity, to all of a sudden just exploding,” she said.
Neither he nor his "insights" are worth a warm bucket of spit. The most incompetent, blithering priest I've ever met is worth about a dozen of his sort.

That just goes to show how you maintain and support your profound ignorance then.

As a general proposition, one doesn't need to taste every apple in the barrel to conclude that it is a barrel of rotten apples.

I listened to enough of the clip to get a general impression, and extrapolated.

Wrongly, it appears.

Mind you, if you taste one apple, find it to be rotten and throw the whole barrel away, you are in danger of throwing away some of the tastiest apples you never had.

Saying that, Fry never got a lead role in a major US TV drama like his mate so he can't be all that clever...
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Who in blazes is Robert Fry and why should I give a rat's patootie? :nana

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.
