Another casualty - a child injured during the airplane crash has died in the hospital.

I doubt if these guys will be able to get jobs shoveling shiit in their home country of Korea.

Oh yeah, skillful editing of that KTVU news piece. :ok

On Friday, Bay Area Fox affiliate KTVU told viewers the purported names of the pilots on Asiana Flight 214.

The problem was that the names — "Sum Ting Wong," "Wi Tu Lo," "Ho Lee Fuk" and "Bang Ding Ow" — were obviously fake. The news anchor read the names off the teleprompter and didn't bat an eye, adding that the information had been confirmed by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The channel quickly apologized in a statement, saying later in the broadcast, "Earlier in the newscast we gave some names of pilots involved in the Asiana Airlines crash. These names were not accurate despite an NTSB official in Washington confirming them late this morning. We apologize for the error."

Coverage of the tragic plane crash at San Francisco International Airport — which killed two girls and injured dozens of others — on Sunday has proven tricky for some news outlets. Earlier this week, the Chicago Sun-Times apologized for its front page headline "FRIGHT 214," which was criticized for sounding like a stereotype of an Asian accent.

UPDATE 9 p.m. EST: The National Transportation Safety Board issued the following apology, suggesting an intern had mistakenly confirmed the incorrect names.

Ah, the national sport!
The airline at the centre of a San Francisco plane crash that killed three people says it will sue a broadcaster for mistakenly airing fake pilot names.

Asiana Airlines says KTVU damaged the airline's reputation with the "racially discriminatory report" against Asians and will file a lawsuit in the US.

The bogus names were mistakenly confirmed by a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) intern.

But the airline has said it will not sue the NTSB.

"We decided to sue KTVU because Asiana Airlines thinks their news defames our pilots and our company's reputation," Ki-won Suh, an Asiana spokesman, said on Monday.

A presenter on the Fox News affiliate in Oakland, California, read the fake names on air on Friday.

Hopefully cooler heads at ASIANA will prevail but knowing the Korean psyche, I doubt it.

And you thought I might have posted something BLUE?

On a less serious note, ASIANA will have to scrape up all the money out of KTVU that they can, once those lawsuits come pouring in from the passengers on ill-fated flight 241.
