A Saturday In Santa Cruz -or- Seeing How The Other Half Live

Post by dales »

We (daughter and her family) decided to brave the hellacious CA-17 traffic and head over the mountain to Sta. Cruz/Capitola.

We ate here:

Got a spot right in front of the place, too.

Had a tasty lunch walked the pier and climbed back into the Toyota and head for Capitola.

Spent the rest of the sunny afternoon at Capitola while my grandson body surfed and his younger brother squealed with delight.

Both my grandsons LOVE the ocean and we literally had to drag them away.

Returned to Sta. Cruz and watched the denizens emerge from the shadows and the sun set.

Walked the main street there until it got fairly dark and headed back over the mountain to smogville.

Rube, I envy you for living there but have never seen so many greasy bums outside of Frisco.

We let you in didn't we?

sheesh.

I can see the wharf from our house when my wild rose hedge is trimmed ah which it isn't right at the mo'. You can get some nice fresh local salmon right out of the ocean at Stagnaros if you're there at the right time. I used to stop there at the end of afternoon bike rides for a nice slice o' fish. Mmmmm its tasty.

I cooked lobster tails on the grill saturday. They came out perfect. It was a little unbearable outside, 100F with 100% humidity, but I braved it and my wife and I had a great dinner.

As an easterner visiting California, it is always striking how tan and healthy the street bums look. And in San Francisco, how articulate and neat their begging posters are. Rather makes one think they could be gainfully employed if they chose to.

To be fair, many of them probably have substance abuse/mental health issues.

I felt bad for them and couldn't imagine any of them lasting one day on any job.
