Laughing Len comes to Aus for his pension

Post by Gob »

Legendary music poet Leonard Cohen is throwing his hat into the ring for what is expected to be his final Australian tour.

The 78-year-old songwriter joins a packed calendar of summer tours with Muse, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac and Beyonce all moving thousands of tickets nationally.

Cohen has thrilled Australian audiences with moving three-hour concerts on two tours in the past five years.

The singer was forced back on the road after a 15-year hiatus because his former manager had embezzled his retirement fund.

The Australian shows, which kick off at the Perth Arena on November 13 will be the final leg on this world tour, his third since returning to the concert stage in 2008.

His Australian promoter Michael Gudinski said Cohen was yet to confirm these would be his last tour here.

"From what I have been led to believe this will be his last tour here," Gudinski said.

Cohen's concerts have been lauded as spiritual experiences with many in the audience moved to tears during his passionate performances.

"He is, without a doubt, one of the most special artists I have worked with in my life; it's almost a religious experience," Gudinski said.

"I love the fact he cares about his audience and very few artists have made albums later in their career of such significance as Leonard has done."

Gudinski said the artist wanted to explore other Australian cities on the tour, adding concerts in Far North Queensland.

Tickets for the shows go on sale from August 12, with a Visa pre-sale from August 6.

I suppose if he dies there you get to keep the Ashes? I already posted on the FB page a threatening demand that he stop by South Africa on the way to Oz, just in case.

That's the only way Aus will mate.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

I assumed Dale's post to be a copy of The Complete List Of Leonard Cohen's Most Enjoyable Songs....

ETA:

Or perhaps The Unabridged Collection Of Leonard Cohen's Most Meaningful Lyrics....

Ah I could agree with the first, but not your second quip there Jim.

For all his faults, Lennny has written some stunning lyrics. Not all of his are so, but he's nothing if not erudite.

Well, one man's "erudite" is another man's "trite"...
