Marine to the rescue.

Post by Gob »

Hearts are being warmed by the story of a tough Marine who made sure a young boy separated from his group in a 5km street race managed to make it to the finish line.

Lance Corporal Myles Kerr, 19, started the race at a festival in the Michigan town of Charlevoix with the intention of beating some fellow Marines. But his plans were diverted by nine-year-old Boden Fuchs, who had become separated from the group he started the race with. As told by the Seal of Honour group on Facebook, the struggling boy asked Kerr: "Sir, will you please run with me?"

Throughout the course, Lance Corporal Kerr urged Boden on when the boy wanted to give up, ensuring he made it to the end where he was reunited with his party. Lance Corporal Kerr may have ended the race with the slowest time for his age group, but he's the one getting the shout-outs for his kind deed. The Facebook account, which includes a picture of the two running together, had been liked by more than 211,000 people by Friday morning AEST, and shared nearly 47,500 times.

All the attention seems to have surprised Lance Corporal Kerr, who tweeted: "I was just doing what any man would do, but thank you!".

He also mentioned that Boden's parents had given him a US$100 restaurant gift card.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
