Selling my house
Selling my house
Yep, I think so. The taxes are too much...it's just not worth it anymore. Time to call a realtor tomorrow.

Re: Selling my house
Jarl, as I recall you've got pretty remote digs...
Doesn't this mean that you might have to move closer to other people?
Do you really think that wise?

But where will you house your invaluable collection of rusting cars and vintage washing machines?

Front yard, silly!
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Re: Selling my house
Good luck Jaraxle, hope you get your asking price. Where do you live that the taxes are so high? IIRC Rhode Island?

I'd let all the toes on my left foot be eaten by weasels before I'd live there.

No...at least, not yet! Considering where my job is now, I'm thinking New Hampshire...probably the Nashua area. Much as I'd love to leave, my family is here.Guinevere wrote:Where ya going? Texas??
Damn, it has been a VERY long time since I had to look for a place to live!

Re: Selling my house
Yep, RI. I just got a damned RETROACTIVE tax bill for 2011! That was the final straw.oldr_n_wsr wrote:Good luck Jaraxle, hope you get your asking price. Where do you live that the taxes are so high? IIRC Rhode Island?

Re: Selling my house
There may be no income tax in NH, but you won't save any money on property tax, and Nashua isn't cheap. Plus, it's well, NH.

Re: Selling my house
Not buying a house...never again. Nashua is a damn sight cheaper than RI! Also looking at Pelham, Hollis, and the other surrounding towns. What's wrong with New Hampshire?!
Will need to downsize the fleet, though. Gotta get down to four vehicles. Most likely: Liz's Grand National and Blazer, my Caddy and Cherokee. Well...two people I know will be VERY happy to hear that!

Re: Selling my house
So you want to throw your money away on rent instead? And worse, be subject to the whims and strictures of a landlord? You?!?! I sure as hell don't, and I like my tax deduction just fine (including my property taxes) but to each his own.

Re: Selling my house
Well duh. If it was for 2011 it would have to be retroactive wouldn't it. That's logic!Jarlaxle wrote:Yep, RI. I just got a damned RETROACTIVE tax bill for 2011! How many Junkers are you going to have to pay to have hauled to the junkyard.? C'mon tell us the makes and models of you're fleet of crap cars. It they're too rusted to tell you can find a tag riveted into one of the front doors.
I rented a Dodge challenger for my current trip! It's the first car to get admiring comments from a shopping cart wrangler at Stater Brothers. It made me think of you!

Re: Selling my house
Home ownership is vastly over-sold. When you account for the taxes, upkeep costs, repairs, and work...and if value inflation is minimal, it may be better to simply liquidate the asset and rent. Especially if you can get a multi-year lease without a tax trigger (state and local taxes are going to explode in the next five years).
In a few short years, my top two monthly expenditures will be (a) health insurance, and (b) real estate taxes.
Hell of a thing, if you ask me.

Nothing getting scrapped. I have never made any secret of my fleet.rubato wrote:Hah! Told you so.Jarlaxle wrote:Not buying a house...never again. Nashua is a damn sight cheaper than RI! Also looking at Pelham, Hollis, and the other surrounding towns. What's wrong with New Hampshire?!

My keepers:
1979 Coupe de Ville, black, owned damn near 20 years, completely rebuilt twice, over 350,000 total miles. I have PERSONALLY had every fastener on and off that car!
1997 Jeep Cherokee, red-stone-reliable winter vehicle even at 205,000 miles, damn near unstoppable with 4WD and four Kedge Grip tires.
Liz's keepers:
1986 Buick Grand National, black with purple ghost flames, her first car, now an 800+HP rocketship.
1986 Chevy K-5 Blazer turbo diesel, Tatonka Products "Bummer" body.
Hers is painted desert camo with plain wheels, tan top, & no side boards, but this is pretty close:

Getting sold:
1979 F-350 XLT Ranger 4x4 SuperCab Camper Special, red, Cummins diesel conversion. Considering I get asked if it's for sale almost every time I drive it, I expect no problem getting what I have in it!
1974 AMC Gremlin X, Big Bad Green, supercharged 401 engine, 4-speed, roll cage, chassis NHRA certified for a 9-second 1/4 mile car, though it only runs high 10's now. (I could probably knock off almost half a second by replacing the 4-speed with a drag Torqueflite.) I have a standing offer to buy the Grem if I ever sell it.
For you, I would expect you to rent a Civic, a Prius, or a Smartcar!I rented a Dodge challenger for my current trip!
You would not know humor if it bit your hand off. It's the first car to get admiring comments from a shopping cart wrangler at Stater Brothers. It made me think of you!

Re: Selling my house
It's at the point I can get a decent apartment for not much more than I'm paying in property tax! Interest rates are so low now it's almost not worth itemizing deductions.Guinevere wrote:So you want to throw your money away on rent instead? Merely afflicted with an abundant sense of the absurdity of your use of language. You went to high school in one of the southern states, right?Jarlaxle wrote:
