How low can you go? Cheating at Karaoke
How low can you go? Cheating at Karaoke
I had the pleasure of watching a new acquaintance competing in a Karaoke contest last week. She was pretty good and she won the contest. No Susan Boyle, but not far from it, either.
Later, talking to her husband, he said that she does this all the time. She picked out that song years ago, practices it all the time at home, and sings the same fucking song in all the competitions. Usually wins.
Somehow this seems not in keeping with the spirit of the thing.

I can't see any fun in that--singing the same song over and over. Are the prizes that good?

All performers sing the same song over & over.
If it's for a contest I don't see a problem with practicing.

Liz spent 3 weeks practicing for a talent show a while back...how is that any different? (She sang Madonna's La Isla Bonita.)

The only way I can think of to actually cheat at karaoke would be to lip sync..
I think that most people who sing karaoke on a regular basis have a favoured song they think they perform best... and in my experience its usually fucking 'Angels' for blokes and fucking 'Dancing Queen' for lasses...

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

Oldr, you're welcome to come to Fenway and sing that song
As for karaoke, I have to say, other than in the movies, I've never actually seen it, or any use for it. Some good air guitar and getting the lyrics wrong is the American way!

My experience of karaoke in Hong Kong was that you get a bar bill for over US$600 and a headache trying to figure out how to expense THAT!
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

The only song I sing at karoke is Road House Blues. although I no longer have my "boozed fueled brovado" so I'm retiredGuinevere wrote:Oldr, you're welcome to come to Fenway and sing that song![]()
And I don't get the lyrics wrong. but they may have been slurred a little

Hatch sang Karaoke in a Tokyo karaoke bar when she was there on an exchange visit. Got a respectful round of applause too.

From what I have heard, they take karoke very seriously in Japan.
Re: How low can you go? Cheating at Karaoke
Although my experience with Karaoke may not be typical, most people enter when they are drunk, are totally unprepared, and embarrass themselves royally.
To the great amusement of the audience.
Isn't that the point?
