I commend you, Jimmy. Your capacity for empathy is infinite.

Perhaps we're just as well off without her. She cared so much about herself that it crowded out any other meaning in her life, or the opinions of anyone else.
Generally I'm in favor of preventing suicides. In this case I might make less of an effort. Bleeah.

please explain further.
Re: Tragedy with a twist
That is of course ridiculous Davey; the list of folks for whom I have absolutely no empathy or sympathy is a long one...Your capacity for empathy is infinite.
I have none for murderers, traitors or child molesters...(the last category in that group seems to be one that you frequently seem to have some sympathy for...)
I have no sympathy/empathy for those who swindle others out of their life savings, or torture people, or enslave people, or who engage in sadistic gratuitous cruelty in any form...
That's a partial list...
But a 14 year old child who never harmed anyone but herself, obviously deeply troubled, pained and confused, who takes her own life?
To have sympathy in a case like that, and view it as a tragic waste and loss, I don't believe requires that one be a "bleeding heart" ...
Just that one have a heart...
And a basic sense of humanity.
ETA:
Let me point out to you Dave, that rube is a Democrat, and he appears to be the only other one around here who agrees with you about this...Are you sure you aren't a Democrat?
This isn't about political philosophy...
It goes to personal character and values; it goes to issues of callousness and misanthropy....
And callous, misanthropic types can be found in both political parties....

Re: Tragedy with a twist
You'll have to change you handle to ancient_n_wiser before you'll see that, oldr...So no further explanation of what you wrote?
When rube screws the pooch so badly that even his pinto bean sized brain is able to grasp it, (like what he said here or his comments about Judaism and racism, to mention just two of numerous examples) he does one of two things, (sometimes both)
1. Accuses the person or persons calling him on it of "lying " about what he said, or not understanding what he said, misinterpreting what he said, etc...always phrased in a way designed to be insulting/accusatory in a transparent attempt to throw the person who has caught him saying something idiotic or vile on the defensive....
(That's what he chose to do in this case; this tactic is of course always problematic, since what he said is always right there on the screen for anyone to read, so for this to work everyone here would have to have reading comprehension skills as poor as his. Alas for rube, this is not the case.)
2. Introduce some completely new statement, with a completely different meaning than the statement he made initially and then shamelessly claim that it means the same thing that he said originally. (Also problematic for the same reasons I stated above)
Once it finally sinks into him that neither of these courses will enable him to wriggle free from what he said he then slithers away, never to respond to the issue again...
How long this can take varies widely; in this case he seems to have abandoned ship fairly quickly. (Sometimes he'll go on in post after post digging himself a deeper hole...personally I prefer it when he does that; it provides hours of hilarity...)
What he never does of course, is man up, own what he said, and admit what he said was wrong and retract it. It would take a far more secure and mature person than our rube to do that...There's way too much arrested development going on there for that to ever happen.

YOu forgot;
3. Claims that the other person missed the stunning subtle wit and humour in his comment, but refuses to elaborate further.

4. Claims he was making a reference to a book by a long dead German author, and its the reader's lack of erudition which has caused the problem.

Re: Tragedy with a twist
Now he may return to this thread to whine nonsense about how the "claque" is "pouring shit" on him, (all the while continuing to ignore oldr's question of course.)
