Love that Sigur Ros track. What's wrong with you Sue!!??!!
In all fairness it's really tough to make the Icelandic language sound beautiful, I guess that's why so many Icelandic artists use English for their commercial work.
Hoppipolla, the name of that track is translated to "jumping puddles" and is about the joy of running around in the rain with the person you love.

I didn't love it, but I thought the music was pleasant enough. I could have done without the visuals, though.

try this one;

Re: Music recommendations
Not as jocular as dancing in puddles with a "friend" but it does have rain in it
Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is

That freaking logo of "love" with the fluttering butterfly wings makes me want to hurl. And I like Enya, but that song seemed exceptionally flat and slow to me.

Re: Music recommendations
Well, apparently even Sigur Ros were bored to tears, since in the middle of the thing they had to cut away to an interview just to keep folks from dozing off. Makes Leonard Cohen look absolutely manic. Judging by the number of people involved, they must be the largest employer in Iceland.Daisy wrote:That is beautiful.Gob wrote:try this one;

I thought that might be up your alley. They're pretty new still, just coming into their own. Their earlier stuff can be a little precious at times, but I think they've got some potential.Gob wrote:Love that one Sue, I'll check out more of their stuff...

Re: Music recommendations
Stumbled onto these guys ("The Disraeli Gears" -- really?) today; first one is a bit long but worth the wait.
I like this one immensely:

Re: Music recommendations
Thanks Sue, they're both interesting, but that second one (Back of My Eyes) is really good.

Yeah, I can hear some Portishead roots in The Disraeli Gears. And speaking of origins, here's one from my all-time favorite band. It's not my favorite song by a long shot, but you can't argue with the math in the video.
I think this may still be my favorite Yo La Tengo recording -- the first one I ever heard, and totally by accident. It was 25 years ago this past summer that I picked up a 4-song 7-inch sampler in a record store solely because it had a Big Black track on it, but when I heard the YLT cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams," it was immediate and undying love forever.

Re: Music recommendations
For those who have a taste for pop-rock, I came across a series of YouTube videos last week that may be of some interest. Darryl Hall (of Hall & Oates fame) has been inviting a large variety of performers to his house for "jam sessions." They record them and post them as "Live from Darryl's House." They play either music that the guests are known for, old Hall & Oates songs, or some popular music that they just like. Some prior guests included Jose Feliciano, Smokey Robinson, and Joe Walsh. They are all collected on Darryl Hall's own site - I think there are more than 40 of them.

I was never a Hall & Oats fan.
