Late to the table with this....

Post by Daisy »

But after everyone raving on how good Breaking Bad is, I finally succumbed and have binge viewed series one to three on Netflix this week.

My god it's good!

:ok :ok :ok

Ha, funnily enough, I was going to dip my toe in that water...

I dunno. When did we come to think it was something commendable for a teacher to make and sell drugs? That's what I know of it and that's why I won't watch it. Is this supposed to be Robin Hood? Am I missing something in the moral area?

Don't worry - soon I'll be sleeping with the dinosaurs

Oh well

No that's the point it's not commendable. It's a tale of morals and where they start and end, and how the decisions made can really fuck things up.

It is another in the line of morally ambiguous hero tv shows, like The Sopranos, The Shield, Justified, Ray Donovan. You know, the hero has many likeable qualities but does a lot of bad things. Kind of pushes the edge because to keep people watching a show, they have to like the main characters.

As for the cartoon, since he is a public school teacher he had excellent medical coverage. He also likely had a very good public retirement plan to help provide for them after his death, as well as employer paid life insurance. However, the story line is that he turned to crime to create a fund to support them after he was dead, kind of like U.S. Grant writing his memoirs as he was dying to support his widow, only a little less noble.

The Sopranos, The Shield, Justified, Ray Donovan.
Ah I see. Refused to watch the first (scum worship); watched some of the Shield but lost the thread waiting for something decent to happen; never heard of the third; currently refusing to watch the last (more scum worship).

Guess I've got a real stick up the butt when it comes to TV..... but I give "The Godfather" saga, "Fargo", Clockwork Orange" some kind of pass.... hmmmmm

Finished watching it on Monday. Netflix UK put episodes up as soon as they can after USA broadcast.

My thoughts, it ended perfectly.

Now what to watch??

Homeland. I just got hooked after coming late to that party. Season 3 just started.

I tried Homeland, but I couldn't find any sympathy for any of the characters on the show.

Even at their worst I found I felt sympathy for most of the characters in BBad, even Marie and her purple obsession!

I thought Season 1 of Homeland was excellent. Season 2 was pretty good, but not nearly up to the quality of the first year. The first episode of Season 3 was very good.

I think others have mentioned that the American House of Cards with Kevin Spacey had an outstanding first season, if you haven't watched that yet, Netflix it.

Agreed on both (although I have yet to see Season 3 opener of Homeland). I do hope Carrie and Brody stay far apart for this season, their "interactions" are the worst part of the show.
