A-Holes!

Post by dales »

LAKE CITY (AP) — Two Utah men already facing possible criminal charges for purposely toppling an ancient rock formation in a state park have now been removed from their posts as Boy Scout leaders.

A northern Utah Boy Scouts council announced Monday that Glenn Taylor and Dave Hall will no longer be allowed to lead scouting troops due to what happened Oct. 11 at Goblin Valley State Park, which they filmed and posted on Facebook.

The move comes on the heels of the national Boy Scouts of America condemning the men's actions last week and promising a review of the incident. The Boy Scouts' Utah National Parks Council posted a statement on its website saying the men's actions are not in line with the principles the organization teaches about preserving nature.

"We encourage all leaders and Scouts to review the 'Leave No Trace' principles, as we are all a part of maintaining the integrity, character and the natural beauty of the outdoors for all living things," the statement said.

The rock formation they toppled over is about 170 million years old, Utah State Parks spokesman Eugene Swalberg said. The central Utah park is dotted with thousands of the eerie, mushroom-shaped sandstone formations.

Hall and Taylor came under fire last week after posting a video on Facebook where Taylor can be seen wedging himself between a formation and a boulder to knock a large rock off the formation's top. Taylor and his two companions can then be seen cheering, high-fiving and dancing.

They said the rock formation was loose and they feared it was dangerous. They were leading a group of teenage Boy Scouts on a trip when it happened.

Hall said they found out about losing their Boy Scouts positions Monday morning. They had been troop leaders for a few years, Hall said, and hope to continue to be involved in organization in the future using what happened as a teaching point. Both men are from Highland, Utah, about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City.

"We've always supported the Boy Scouts and if that's what they feel is best, we support that decision," Hall said. "We're extremely sorry for our mistake. We look forward to doing everything we can to make it right and move on."

Utah State Parks authorities are conducting a criminal investigation, and the Emery County Attorney's Office also is reviewing the incident to determine if charges should be filed.
WTF?

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

No one should vandalize a State Park. Just because you're a Boy Scout leader and you mumble some platitudes about "safety" doesn't get you off the hook.

How many times do I have to repeat this advice -- if you don't want anyone to know about it, don't post in on Facebook.

Another somewhat amusing aspect to this:
Man who toppled ancient Utah boulder had filed personal injury lawsuit

A Utah Boy Scout leader whose toppling of an ancient rock formation in a state park was captured in a viral online video is now facing questions over a personal injury lawsuit he filed last month in which he claimed to have been "debilitated" by the accident.

Glenn Taylor, the man who is seen actually dislodging and pushing the rock to the ground, filed a personal injury lawsuit against a woman and her father for injuries he says he suffered in a 2009 car crash.

Taylor, of Highland, sued Alan MacDonald in September, [just a month ago] claiming his daughter caused a 2009 car crash that left him with debilitating injuries. Taylor's claim states that, due to the accident, he injured his back and had to "endure great pain and suffering, disability, impairment, loss of joy of life," reports CBS Station KUTV. Taylor also says in the lawsuit that the accident was "debilitating."

MacDonald said he was surprised when he saw the lawsuit come across his desk, as no one had gone to the hospital following the 2009 accident.

After watching the viral video of Taylor pushes a large boulder from its perch, MacDonald told KUTV that he thinks Taylor doesn't look debilitated at all.

"He's climbing over other rocks," he said, "then he lines up, gets leverage and pushes that big old rock several times before he finally pushes it over. Then he turns and twists and high-fives and yucks it up and flexes his muscles.

"He just doesn't look like a terribly disabled person to me," he said.

[I really love this next bit:]

When asked by KUTV correspondent Chris Jones if he had filed a lawsuit claiming to be debilitated, Taylor replied, "Yes, from four years ago."

"You don't seem very debilitated [on the video]," Jones said,

"You didn't see how hard I pushed," Taylor replied.

"It looked like you were pushing pretty hard," the reporter said.

"You don't have my authority to put this online, to put this on the news," Taylor said, ending the conversation.
[LOL! Gee, if only all those guys Mike Wallace used to chase down the street on 60 Minutes had thought of that...what a maroon  ]

My advice goes double if you're a plaintiff in a personal injury lawsuit. Good lord.

Up until this incident and thier initial non apology I thought fairly highly of greenpeace. Now it will take a lot to restore their credibility in my eyes. Returning all of those who committed the crime (as well as those who approved it) to Peru to face well deserved charges would be a start.

What y'all said... squared
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

lol. I watch this show about Alaska and this old mountain man was telling a story about this bear that was hanging around his cabin. he ended up pissing on the bears face from his porch and the bear would not leave. then he said he finally shot him.

the money shot was...

"once you piss in a fellas face, you kind of have to kill him"

Kumi Niadoo, the executive director of Greenpeace, is planning to go to Peru and apologize in person.
I know a few people who could make him give up the names of the dirt bags. :nana
