Re: Seven days quiz
4/7, and considering the lousy questions this time I'm surprised I got that many. Lucky guesses.

3/7, (Only knew one, and only knew that one because it was posted here.)
I completely agree with Econo on the quality of the questions...
On what planet is which obscure Scottish town that's featured in Grand Theft Auto considered "news"?

I got the owl answer, and only the owl answer.
Re: Seven days quiz
4/7 as well; I only knew the ship one for certain.

Re: Seven days quiz
The first three for me and that's all. Hadn't heard of any of them.

4/7 for me--all guesses; I hadn't heard a single one of those "news" stories.

My guess success ratio on these ersatz news stories was less than Econo's...

I did exceedingly well, I got 1/7.

Re: Seven days quiz
I don't believe this...
This is the first time this has ever happened...
I got seven out of seven...
And I only knew one, (the movie remake question...whoever came up with that idea should be shot...)the rest were complete WAGS and this was possibly the most obscure, arcane, and provincial set of questions yet...(farm animals falling through roofs in Cornwall?
)
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go pick up some lottery tickets on my way to the track...

Re: Seven days quiz
Yeah but why is it NEWS? Ain't it the normal way for Cornish boys to explain the sheep in the bedroom? You know, come to think of it that's three strikes and yer out: Cornwall, Wales and Australia.
4/7 for me and I'm proud to say I didn't know a single one. Must not be as blessed as LJ.

It is impossible to lock a door with a side handle because anyone can take a wire coat hanger bend it a couple of places, reach under the door and open it in seconds.

Re: Seven days quiz
That's just rubbish. Side handle doors have locks with keys. A quick boot will open them easily though. I know because we have side handle doors and locks here

Re: Seven days quiz
A bent wire coathanger can be slipped under a door with a side-handle turned up to catch the inside handle and the handle pulled down, opening the door. "Locks with keys" on side handle doors are no more effective than the old privacy locks on bathroom doors which can be opened from outside with a small screwdriver slipped into the hole in the knob. I have looked for but never found a door design which will even slow down someone with a coathanger opening a side-handle lock. Doors which have combined deadbolt and side-handle doors are designed, for safety reason,s so the handle operates both the deadbolt and the latch.MajGenl.Meade wrote:That's just rubbish. I've never seen one that works like that. Every deadbolt I've seen is a separate mechanism from the door handle or knob.rubato wrote:Doors which have combined deadbolt and side-handle doors are designed, for safety reason,s so the handle operates both the deadbolt and the latch.

See the handle. See the lock. Pull the handle with your coat hanger and see what that gets you. Nowhere. The door is locked. With a key (that smart people leave in the lock, half turned so it can't be pushed out or pulled out. There is no hole in the handle. Granted the picture I found isn't a particularly robust set. Looks a lot like mine though.
You're thinking of handles like this I suppose:

I'm also intrigued by the length of your wire coat hanger. It must translate to a length of about 6' to go under the door and 4' or so up the inside while still leaving enough in your hands to manipulate it.
