I don't think I need to rely on my psychic abilities to divine that you're not exactly a fan.

I disagree Jarl...

The press would play it up at the outset, but I think very early on in the campaign that monkey would be off his back...

He doesn't look anything like George, he doesn't sound anything like George, he was never a part of George's Administration, and he's got a very successful record of his own to run on. (George blew it on Katrina; Jeb successfully managed Florida through four major hurricanes in two years; part of the reason why he still has such enduring popularity in the state. ) He has sufficient gravitas that early on in the campaign people would start to focus yea or nay on him on his own merits.

It would not be just the press: it would be every GOP pol running against him in the primaries, every Democratic pol, every comedian, and almost every voter who remembers the name "Bush". Plus....The Who*. I'm not sure what you mean by "gravitas" but I do recall that early on George W. seemed like a likable, intelligent "compassionate conservative" and he was the successful governor of a large, important state.

Actually I am on the fence about him. Sometimes I am aligned with his view then other times I am wondering what the heck is he doing (some things just seem out of character). :shrug Overall I like him better than my congressman, Tim Bishop (1st congressional district). Bishops seat is up this year and there are two (maybe three) republicans who have talked about running. I haven't heard of any dems challenging him yet. He is a little vulnerable.

Then we have McCarthys seat as she is retiring. Lots of interest in that seat. Three Rebpublicans and two Democrats IIRC. One of the dems is the Nassau DA Kathleen Rice.
