For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

Odd. I thought it didn't even post once! Sorry about that

Re: More bitchin' about the weather
We got a decent dousing from Wednesday night into late yesterday morning and the forecast calls for more rain starting late today and continuing all through the weekend... Not enough to get us out of the hole we're in, but a decent start; if we can sustain this kind of weather pattern throughout the month of February, it will make a huge difference.

Re: More bitchin' about the weather
Minus 4F this am here. It has snowed off and on for the last 24 hours. More snow this weekend and a chance for snow next week. There had better be some sort of payoff for this crap, like less mosquitoes next summer or something of that nature.

The spousal unit assures me that the colder it gets, and the longer it stays cold, the fewer mosquitoes we'll have this year. I hope that's true, because at this rate I shouldn't get a bite all summer.TPFKA@W wrote:There had better be some sort of payoff for this crap, like less mosquitoes next summer or something of that nature.
GAH!
Re: More bitchin' about the weather
That won't work; winters used to be a lot colder for a lot longer and the mosquitos still returned in force. A drought will cut their numbers, but I doubt the cold will.
Re: More bitchin' about the weather
In the more than two decades I've lived out here, I can't recall ever having gotten a mosquito bite in The City; I've gotten them in Napa, and many of the other areas outside of town, (where they have more normal type summers) but not one in 'Frisco itself....
Big change from the DC area, where in addition to the voracious mosquitoes, there are all the wonderful gnats to contend with in the summer...

They're predicting 3-4 inches of rain for The City over this weekend, (apparently more than we've gotten over the past year) and some good news for the snow pack:
By Ken Pritchett
KTVU.com
SIERRA MOUNTAINS, Calif. —
In what would be an average snow storm most other years, the system that rolled into the Sierra on Thursday was a welcome site during what has been a dry winter so far.
Another storm arriving over the weekend is expected to bring snow totals to the Sierra measured in feet rather than inches.
“Hopefully it keeps coming. Nice to feel winter again,” said skier Jay Lennon just before he took a lift at Boreal Ski Resort.
This snow pleases skiers and it should please everyone who lives in California as residents endure the state’s worst drought on record.
When state officials took the last snow survey on January 30th, the snowpack measured at just 12 percent of normal for that date, a record low.

A bit odd ain't it Jim? Why are you so interested in what happens in London, the capital of the world?Lord Jim wrote:They're predicting 3-4 inches of rain for The City over this weekend

Just using the terminology that the provincials out here use, Gen'l....
And provincial is a good way to describe it...
When I first moved out here, and folks would ask me where I was from and I would say, "DC" I would frequently get the response, "Oh, Daly City?"....

Re: More bitchin' about the weather
In this area we call NYC "the city"; Sgt. Friday called LA the City ("This is the city, Los Angeles, California ..."). I guess provincials are like that--even in England it appears (where London is also called capital of the world?
Can't blame them for trying, I guess
).

I don't know that is actually how it works, ask someone from AlaskaSue U wrote:The spousal unit assures me that the colder it gets, and the longer it stays cold, the fewer mosquitoes we'll have this year. Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
Re: More bitchin' about the weather
What is this "rain" you guys talk about?
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
Re: More bitchin' about the weather
If it works that way with black flies I might try camping in Canada again this summerRick wrote:I don't know that is actually how it works, ask someone from AlaskaSue U wrote:The spousal unit assures me that the colder it gets, and the longer it stays cold, the fewer mosquitoes we'll have this year. Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: More bitchin' about the weather
Up until recently, I was wondering the same thing...(It's already started, ahead of schedule)Gob wrote:What is this "rain" you guys talk about?
But I've been praying for rain, (I really have been; not in a garish way, but in my own matter-of-fact Private Prayer way) so naturally I see a cause and affect relationship...
And given my success, next I intend to pray for a Ferrari...

Re: More bitchin' about the weather
It's snowing again which is grand because yesterday it did not snow and we had all that pesky sunshine to deal with. *sigh*
