Sorry, I mis-spoke, Bush was running for re-election as the sitting president. I shouldn't diss his presidency since he was occasionally capable as he was in Desert Storm and in agreeing to raise taxes to put out the deficit fire he and Reagan had stoked to white-heat.
And I did not contradict myself. Money is not the ONLY thing but it is the single most important thing.
The best candidate running for the Republican nomination (both in terms of electability and intelligent leadership) was Huntsman who dropped out because Republican backers wanted "lying and stupid" more than capability.
Money usually cannot get a loathsome candidate elected but without it the most capable person in the world will never be elected.
The Republican-packed Supreme Court has severely crippled democracy.
