The Pope’s visit to Britain came under fresh scrutiny last night after it was revealed that multi-millionaires funded a significant proportion of the trip
Oh, well, that's alright then....

I assume you approve....

Less expense for the British taxpayer....

Well, not exactly. These were expenses that the Church agreed to assume for the trip, because they were purely religious in nature.

It's a bit unseemly for the Pope to be granting private audiences in exchange for handsome financial gifts. One expects that sort of thing from politicians (and they get criticized for it), but it smacks of selling indulgences.

I can't say I am surprised. Ultimately it is about their god (aka money)
