Legendary prog-rock outfit Pink Floyd are due to release a new album in October, their first LP in 20 years.



Titled The Endless River, the album is based on sessions the band recorded in 1994 when they released their last album The Division Bell.

The announcement came via a tweet from Polly Samson, David Gilmour’s wife.

The 1994 sessions include contributions from keyboard player Richard Wright, who died in 2008, with Samson’s tweet describing the new album as his “swansong”.

Durga McBroom-Hudson, one of the band’s touring singers, has provided more information about the upcoming release, revealing that there will likely be a mixture of songs with vocals and instrumental tracks, and that the album will blend the old sessions with new recordings. Writing on her Facebook page, she said:

“The recording did start during The Division Bell sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled 'The Big Spliff' that Nick Mason spoke about). Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David [Gilmour] and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then. It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them.”

McBroom-Hudson also confirmed that the album will consist entirely of previously unreleased material, that there are no confirmed tour plans, and that session bassist Guy Pratt will be on the record.

There has been no official statement from the band confirming or acknowledging the new album.

Pink Floyd released a 20th anniversary edition of The Division Bell on June 30, while today marks the eighth anniversary of Syd Barrett’s death.

Actually, it was a very successful ad, and the sound of the music fit with the video. The meaning of the lyrics and the sad ending of his story obviously are not so consistent with selling a car. But Pink River, Pink Moon -- should I post a Pink Martini video?

I can't help it, the title reminded me of the song, and the ad, and my Cabrio. The ad was incredibly successful, and it exactly captured the feeling of driving around on dark country roads (where I grew up), in that car, on a summer night.
