Re: Home for Random Thoughts
My above post was about trying to locate broadcast archives of Louis Brean. I came across paperwork sent to my gransmother (1943) that is a direct link. It's funny how things start falling into place. I still haven't found sound files just newspapers and radio history sites.

We got a big pile of mail today and the only thing in it that was worth keeping was the rubber band the mail man wrapped around it...

You got 'em.

Re: Home for Random Thoughts
My Mom has had one for a decade @w -- its a life-saving device for her. The implantation is relatively simple, as you probably know. The worst part is attaching the leads to the heart. It's quite common to have one, and it can make a huge difference in his life. There will be regular check-ups to "interrogate" the pacer, about 2x per year. Some people can do that over a phone line, too, but they like to do them in person to start.
One thing I don't recall them telling us at the beginning -- and nothing you have to deal with now, but those batteries do wear out, so you have to go back in every 5 years or so for a battery (only) replacement. Annoying, but necessary.
Best of luck to you both!

Best of luck to your man TPFKA@W, hope it all goes smoothly.

He's lucky to have such an advocate & caregiver, @w - you'll both be in my thoughts.

Best wishes to him, and to both of you, @W.
I don't do prayer, but I do do hope. I hope all goes well.

Thanks all. I am happy to accept prayer, hope, positive energy, whatever you have. He is actually in pretty great shape except his heart beats too slowly. We were told back in 2009 that he would likely need a pacemaker. Otherwise his cardiac function is like a teenager's. Oddly his slightly younger brother is going to have to have a pacemaker too. Probably something genetic. He goes under the knife at 1pm tomorrow est. I embarrassed my poor husband by asking the doctor when we can have sex. There was a 4th year med student in on the meeting and I am sure she was talking about that to her friends, about those old folks talking about, you know, doing it. *snert* But it's a legitimate question.

You asked the doctor "When can we have sex?"
What made you think the doctor was interested in having sex with you?

My dad got one last Nov at age 81. The doc said his real problem with getting one will be in his head. As a very active 80+ person, he needed to remind himself he can do what he wants. The pacemaker is not going to slow him down.
Good wishes to you AW.

Re: Home for Random Thoughts
Until I read the word "pacemaker" in that post, I was seriously confused as to the "one" that Oldr's dad was getting....... Around here, if I announce "I've got one", it's an emergency signal to race to the bedroom or find a cheap motel......

I'm very relieved...
I thought I was coming down with full-blown Rockin' Pneumonia, but it turns out that I only have a mild case of The Boogie Woogie Flu...
