Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...

Hmmmm it's Ok, not great. But there again, I'm listening to it off the back of Cabin Pressure.

Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
I'm waiting for Vikings to come back on. In the mean time I do watch Duck Dynasty.
Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
So we watched a couple of the Hawaii 5-0 episodes on Xfinity, and I have to say it's actually a pretty good show...
Once I got past the idea of "how dare anyone try to be Jack Lord" and took the show for what it is, it's a pretty well written cop show...
Sort of like "NCIS Hawaii"...
Speaking of NCIS, it took me a while to warm to NCIS LA (it has more bang-bang and explosions than the original, which are of course points in its favor, but no Leroy Jethro...)
And I'll give NCIS New Orleans a fair watch...I wasn't all that thrilled with the spin off pilot episode; but I've been a fan of Scott Bakula's ever since his Johnathan Archer days...(I'm one of the few people on the planet who thinks that Star Trek Enterprise was a really good show) but man, his south Louisiana accent needs some work...

What, no fondness for Quantum Leap and Ziggy?I've been a fan of Scott Bakula's ever since his Johnathan Archer days..
I thought it was a good show, and better than Voyager and much of DS9. Not sure why it never really caught on.I'm one of the few people on the planet who thinks that Star Trek Enterprise was a really good show
The first season or so, they actually had some reasonable scripts to go along with likeable and good-looking characters, as well as the "hey, I've been there" island scenery. Give it some time, the writing goes downhill after awhile. So we watched a couple of the Hawaii 5-0 episodes on Xfinity, and I have to say it's actually a pretty good show.

It lasted five seasons...that's a good run for a series...
(Two seasons longer than the original...)
I think the big problem the show had was placement...
I never watched it while it was in production; it was on "WB" which mostly ran really schlocky low-brow sitcoms...
So it wasn't something that I ever checked out...(Though if I remember correctly, Voyager was also on WB, and I did watch some episodes of that while it was still in production)
I got hooked on Enterprise a few years ago when Sci-Fi was running four episode blocks of it in the evenings...(it must have had an audience, because they ran it for a long time)
If it had started on Sci-Fi, it probably would have run seven or eight seasons rather than five...
Oh man, I completely forgot about that one...Quantum Leap
That really was kind of a silly show...

Sci Fi used to have some really good original programming (like Sliders, and of course SG 1 And Stargate Atlantis) but now most of their original programming is a bunch cheap ass unwatchable "reality" type crap...

I liked Quantum Leap and Sliders. Star Gate I didn't really get into. Don't know why.
A lot of these shows I start out watching, get into, then kinda stop watching. Loss of interest? sometimes. Usually somethign else comes up during that time slot. And I do not do DVR. I still have last seasons SoA waiting for me.

For all you Cumberbitches out there, I'm half-way through Parade's End, which is quite good. A much darker and deeper version of Downton, and just as well acted and set. Of course, having Tom Stoppard adapt the script can't hurt, either.

Thanks Guin, will do! See also;
The Imitation Game is an upcoming historical drama film about British mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and computer scientist Alan Turing. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Turing and is directed by Morten Tyldum with a screenplay by Graham Moore, based on the biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges

Is that the same Alan Turing who's better known than George Marshall?

Most networks, cable and broadcast, have gone this way; I recall when A&E and Bravo used to have quality arts programming--play and opera performances, in depth biographies and other documentaries, etc. Now it's Housewives of wherever, pawn shops, duck dynasty (sorry, I think you said you like it, but I can't watch even for 5 minutes), ghost hunting shows, etc. (not to mention hours of infomercials). Looks like false advertising, but they show what sells; I really can't blame them--we get what we deserve.
Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
The Duck Dynasty fan is oldr, not me...(The show that answers the question, "What if The Beverly Hillbillies were a reality series? The only show worth watching on A&E any more is Longmire ...
The Glades was a good show, but they ended that most unceremoniously...
After four seasons, the show ended with the protagonist being shot on his wedding day; you don't even know if he lived or died; talk about cheating the audience...

Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
Bravo really used to be pretty good, agreed its totally lost it with Housewives after Housewives and now the Pseudo-Housewives (some goofy London show), and who knows what else crap. I miss Inside the Actor's Studio, and I love Top Chef, but that's the sum total of my Bravo watching.

Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
And now the actor, Matt Passmore (another Aussie who plays American roles with out an accent) who played Jim Longworth, the wisecracking, cynical, half Jim Rockford half Colombo lead on The Glades, has got a new role playing a middle aged gigolo in what looks to be an absolutely godawful show...

Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
Sorry; and (Quoting Judith Krist reviewing the Devil in Miss Jones), "May the bluenoses leave it for those whose taste it is"; nothing I like, but if oldr (or anyone else) wants to watch it, fine with me. But I'd rather have it on TNN or the Country network than A&E.The Duck Dynasty fan is oldr, not me...(The show that answers the question, "What if The Beverly Hillbillies were a reality series? Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
Or SPIKE...But I'd rather have it on TNN or the Country network

One correction...
I said Duck Dynasty answered the question, "What if The Beverly Hillbillies were a reality series"
To be more precise, Duck Dynasty answers the question, "What if The Beverly Hillbillies were a reality series, and They Never Left Bug Tussle"

Yes, I am THE Duck Dynasty fan. Not afraid to admit it. I like to hunt. I like to trap. Don't do the facial hair thing though. I do like the escapades and am envious that they have a swamp in their back yard to play in. Me and lakes, streams, marshes are very good friends. But I don't just kill snakes like they do. I like snakes.
How I am a Long GuyLander I don't know (a birth thing). Keep the beaches and sand (although I do like to fish). Medium rare on one side, well done on the other!?!? forget that. I'm a burn and peel person (German heritage). I go to the ocean maybe once a year.

And there is nothing wrong with the spiritual message the DD has in each episode. While I am not religious, I am trying to become more spiritual.
And every little bit helps.

Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
SPIKE no longer exists, it's now the "Esquire Network" and all fancy pancy, high brow, woman oogling and drinking.

Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
I didn't start watching it till season 7 and had to back up with DVD's and binge watched. It is sooooooo creepy. My husband can barely stand to watch it saying it is too dark. It's the only network show I watch.f the major commercial network dramas, the only one I almost always catch is Criminal Minds; it doesn't always succeed on every episode, but when it does it's dark and creepy with some good plot twists. The joking around of the characters (a bane for most shows IMHO) is kept to a minimum, which enhances its appeal to me, as is the fact that it is more story than character driven. Not many shows like this left.
Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
I love that show, too - I haven't seen it in a few years (since I don't own TV) and only saw it sporadically - I'll have to find it streaming so I can catch up.
I agree with @husband; it's very dark. I've sometimes wondered about the writers . . .

Re: Some Brief Reviews For Three New Shows...
They have an actual retired FBI profiler named Jim Clemente on their writing staff. I have talked to him on twitter a few times. Of course the real BAU is not like the Hollywood version, but some of the stories are based on real stuff. It's weird but I have had close encounters with 2 serial killers in my lifetime. I would say, "what are the odds", but I just think there are more out there than people realize.bigskygal wrote:I love that show, too - I haven't seen it in a few years (since I don't own TV) and only saw it sporadically - I'll have to find it streaming so I can catch up.
