I don t believe that proves your point at all.
I disagree about the present threat, but future threats are why the second amendment is as necessary now as it ever was

handing a novice an automatic weapon is just nuts.

I won t waste time criticizing the instructor, its too late for him to change his ways.
My uncle started with a .22 rifle, then a .22 pistol, then a Mauser 98 rifle. I must note that he fired his first full-auto weapon (a Browning Automatic Rifle) at age ten.

just saying that gun safety is something that must be taught. just handing an uzi to an obvious novice , a turning it on full auto after one practice shot is not responsible.

survival of the fittest at work I guess....

Doesn't the M16 have a three position trigger. Singel shot, 3 shot burst, thenfully automatic? Guess the uzi does not have that option.

New ones don't (no full auto capability), but older ones did have that...its part of the safety lever..

Oh, what the fuck...I'm gonna go ahead and post this. It's really gonna piss off some of you here, but I think this is funny as hell, and mostly true:

Wes, that's a good example...

I'm pretty sure that post was intended to be addressed to Guin's post above mine, but since it immediately followed mine, with no quote, I could easily think you were addressing me...

One thing that would help is if when you want to reply to someone, if you first could post their handle and then post your reply. Here's a hypothetical example:
Lord Jim:

That was a fantastic point you made, no one could possibly argue with it. You're clearly one of the most intelligent and insightful participants here. It's a privilege to be able to have the benefit of your wisdom.
(of course given the content in that example it would be obvious who was being addressed, but you see my point...)

Also, doing a quote is not that difficult.

If you want to quote a whole post, (and this might be the easiest way for you to do it) when you're posting, if you scroll down, you'll see in the upper right hand corner of the previous posts a tab that says "quote" you just click on that, and the content of the post you're addressing, (along with who said it) will automatically show up in your post.

The other option isn't that complicated either (if I'm making this too simple, I apologize, but I'm going to provide this info assuming that you are a complete novice at this.):

1.Scroll your mouse across the comments you want to respond to (with the left click pressed down) in order to highlight the word.
2.Right click on your mouse and chose the "copy" option.
3.Go to the post you're composing and right click again and select the "paste" option. (the words you copied will appear on the screen)
4. Left click to highlight the word s again.
5.Scroll up to the tool bar above where you're composing your post and click on the "Quote" tab.

If you want to check that you've done it correctly, you can click on "preview" rather than "submit"
and the words you've quoted should look like this
Lord "Always Happy to Lend a Hand" Jim

If the topic is gun control, and Econo and Sue are both saying it's "mostly true" you'll forgive me if I don't spend 16 minutes of the limited time I have left on this mortal coil watching it... :P

Wes, how has every single other first world country managed to survive?

you seem to think we are immune

that s not even mentioning the common criminals that we face every day.

How is he being condescending? You either believe that or you don't; if you don't believe it you are free to say so.

gob, its all related isn t it?

I m pretty sure that mexico s vast majority of good people would not live in fear of the brutal killers of the cartels if they were all armed.

as it stands they have no choice but to do their bidding or die, as the govt is either unwilling or unable to defend them.

there is no guarantee against tyranny and lawlessness other than the people s will and ability to stand against it.

Mexicans have a right to bear arms. Why should they fear the brutal killers of the cartels? All they need to do is buy many guns for themselves and they will likely fear nothing on earth.

Maybe it would be a good idea for some hombre to start recruiting people to join a Mexican té party...

I just read up on mexico s gun laws, and while in theory they have the right to bear arms, the reality appears to be different.
apparently the only legal place to buy a gun is one army base in mexico city, and you have a two or three day permit to get it home. in reality the regs make it impossible for most people to get a gun.

the us consulate in tiajuana flatly says that guns are illegal in mexico, which seems false. it also says you will be severely punished for even a pen knife

How? If you live in a state of permanent civil war over there, then have at it.

Otherwise, wouldn't you prefer to live somewhere more civilsied than this;
