Rick Sanchez: Jon Stewart A 'Bigot,' Jews Run CNN & All Media
First Posted: 10- 1-10 10:53 AM | Updated: 10- 1-10 06:09 PM

UPDATE: Rick Sanchez has been fired from CNN.

"Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well,' a CNN statement said.

UPDATE: Rick Sanchez did not appear on Friday's "Rick List," the afternoon after his controversial comments about Jon Stewart and Jews surfaced. Sanchez's regular substitute Brooke Baldwin filled in for him.

ORIGINAL POST: CNN's Rick Sanchez made controversial comments on a Sirius radio show Thursday, calling Jon Stewart a "bigot" and saying that CNN and the other networks are all run by Jewish people.

Discussing Stewart with radio host Pete Dominick, Sanchez said that the "Daily Show" host has a limited worldview, and called him a "bigot."

The conversation began with Sanchez decrying "elite, Northeast establishment liberals" who "deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.

"I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart's a bigot," he said. "I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I'm so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine."

When asked who Stewart is bigoted against, Sanchez said "everybody else who's not like him."

Sanchez would eventually retract the "bigot" claim, settling instead on calling Stewart "prejudicial" and "uninformed."

But he made a larger point when Dominick suggested that Stewart could understand being part of an oppressed minority group because he is Jewish.

Sanchez scoffed at the claim, snickering and suggesting that CNN and the rest of the media is run by Jewish people (from the "Stand Up with Pete Dominick" blog):

Very powerless people... [snickers] He's such a minority, I mean, you know [sarcastically]... Please, what are you kidding? ... I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they -- the people in this country who are Jewish -- are an oppressed minority? Yeah. [sarcastically]

see what happens when you start channeling steve?

The irony is that he didn't get fired simply for being stupid and terrible on air. Oh wait ...

Well…..

…..that should have completely diffused the explosive atmosphere.
A sufficiently copious dose of bombast drenched in verbose writing is lethal to the truth.

Well....

In the first tape, while he was unartful in the way he said it, I think I know what he was getting at, and he had a legitimate point....

There is in fact, a good deal of bigotry and condescension that emanates from some elements on the left towards those who they view as in some way not as good as they are...particularly intellectually...

We've seen some of this expressed right here on this lil' ol' forum....

We see a form of this every time some one suggests that "those people" have somehow been duped into opposing "their own interests"....

As though the person making that statement is somehow in a better position to determine what "those people" should see as "their best interests" then they themselves are...That they are simply too stupid to know what's best for them...

The second tape, however....

Is completely indefensible... portions of it sound like the kinds of things Nixon would have opined in private to Bob Haldeman...he repeats the classic "the Jews control the media" anti-semitic canard pretty much word for word. Completely reprehensible. Presumably this is the part of the interview he was fired for.

At one point on the tape Sanchez says "I don't think..."

Seems to me he could have stopped right there...

He may have had a point but it was lost in the poor choice of target which was largely a reaction to his being "picked on" for saying stupid things. If he's have kept it general or perhaps found a better target he wouldn't have sounded so stupid.

But not nearly as much as from the Republican Party's core base -- pseudo-Christian fundamentalists -- many of whom routinely accuse liberals (whom they define, effectively, as anyone not as loony-right as the Minutemen) of being in league with the devil.

What is a pseudo-Christian fundamentalist?

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Since there are twice as many Conservatives as Liberals in the US, it would only stand to reason that the there would be twice as many Conservative bigots as Liberal bigots.

So what explains the fact that there are at least five times as many right-wing bigots as left-wing bigots in the US? (You know it's true; for your own sake, please don't humiliate yourself by claiming otherwise.)

I wouldn't be so sure about those numbers In my experience the right wing bigots just have better access to microphones.

Really? How would you assess the numbers, conservatives vis-a-vis liberals, on the pure, vicious bigotry that is opposition to gay marriage? Ten to one? Twenty to one? Fifty to one?

False comparison as It's only a mouth-frother issue in one side the anger just doesn't translate across the spectrum.
You may as well ask about the comparison in numbers in regard to those who get uptight about the erosion of civil liberties (outside the second amendment)

Then there are issues that they both froth about in fairly equal measure albeit from different angles like religious tolerance.

Both sides go overboard and both sides use the others excesses to justify their own actions.

But the mouth-frothing ire on the right about civil liberties is not just about second-amendment issues. For example, the right's anger about environmental regulation is couched in terms of civil liberties (fifth-amendment property rights). Etc.

And in much of the US -- especially small-town US -- you can still find substantial public opinion supporting racial segregation in public schools, whites-only swimming pools and water fountains, blacks have to ride in the back of the bus, and so forth.

I am ashamed for my country to point out that that is true, but it is. I have been in many such places, from northeastern Oregon to northeastern Tennessee. I have been where the residents themselves have told me that an African-American who (stupidly) chose to live there would be burned out, and an openly gay couple (even a tourist couple) wouldn't last a single day walking down the street.

And the people who hold those views are not on the left. They are, without any exception I have encountered in my travels and livings, on the right.

If you ask the people who don't want blacks or gays (or other minorities) living in their towns which party they vote for, the answer is almost unanimous: Republican. And the only thing that makes the answer not perfectly unanimous is that some of them won't vote Republican, because the Republican Party is not right-wing enough.

In the abstract, bigotry may be within the province of everyone. Liberals are bigoted against conservatives whom they consider stupid, conservatives are bigoted against liberals whom they consider immoral, etc.

But in the concrete -- when you get right down to who has the right to live in your town while being openly black, gay, or whatever, and who does not -- the bigotry is overwhelmingly on the right. It's a sad thing, but it is the truth.

True, Liberals enjoy looking down their noses at those they despise too much.

Does Mel Gibson run any classes over there?

And yet, in "liberal" Kalifornia, a gay marriage ban (Proposition 8) was handily approved by the voters. And in moonbat-heavy, overwhelmingly-liberal Massachusetts (every Representative is a Democrat, the state legislature is over 90% Democrat, until Scott brown's election, there hadn't been a republican Senator in thirty-plus years), they refuse to put it on the ballot (which, for the record, they are REQUIRED to do per the state Constitution) because they know it will be shot down.

For the record, I would have voted against Proposition 8.

And also for the record, the most vicious homophobe I have ever met is my now-ex-brother-in-law. I am CERTAIN he voted for Prop 8 and may well have campaigned for it. He is, by any definition, a leftist.
