I worked in fast food when I was a teen. (Roy Rogers) I hated when people showed up right before closing time. Never ruubbed my balls on the food though.

Oldr, I really miss Roy Rogers...they don't have them out here...

They have some really decent fast food; a roast beef sandwich made with real roast beef, good quality burgers and fried chicken better than KFC's...

I'll bet you looked a rare treat in your cowboy hat saying, "Howdy pardner, may I take your order?" :)

Jim--I didn't even realize there were any Roy rogers restaurants left; as I recall they all became Ginos and then Hardees (and I haven't seen one of them for a long time). The old joke was the chain went out of business once they used up Trigger. But apparently (according to the website) the brand was relaunched about 10 years ago by a new owner and there are a number of restaurants in the northeast (although I've never seen one).

After college I was never really a fan of fast food, but I always thought there were two different levels--the lower level (McD's, BK, KFC, Popeyes, Taco Bell) and an upper level (the likes of Wendys, Sonics, and a few local brands--Roy rogers was in that). All were fast food, in that they were prepared in advance, but the upper level had things that were a bit better grade meat and fresher produce. None of it was particularly good, but some was less bad. What I recall Roy Roger's instituted was a fixings bar (and later a salad bar), the first fast food place I ever saw do so.

We pretty much cooked as we went. Busy times we would throw a bunch of burgers on the grill. Drop a few dozen of chicken parts in the deep fat friers, get a bunch of roasts beasts in the oven. Hopefully we didn't run out nor over estimate. Sometimes we would "over estimate" around quitting time (11pm) and get to take home the left overs. :mrgreen:
Back then meals were free for the workers and we would make up some pretty good dinners with the food supplies on hand.

Not a bad teen job when I look back on it.

In high school I managed a drive in movie concession stand and we never had trouble with "over estimates"; we just put them in the refrigerator and then back on the steam table the next day. I instituted a 4 day and chuck them out rule because some people would have left them there forever.

Back then you popped your own pop corn too. Now it comes in a big plastic bag. Yet another reason I don't go to the movies.

We did oldr, but whatever was left at the end of the day remained in the bins in the machine and was mixed with the newly popped corn the following day. The popping oil came in 5 gallon drums and the "butter" was margarine, kind of like the "butter flavor" they use today.

And in case anyone didn't know, when you buy French fries, the potatoes weren't actually grown in France.

I guess I'm going to be considered strange by everyone, because I enjoy pineapple and anchovies on pizza (just not at the same time - that would be wrong).

If that's true, how could you possibly like fruit on your pizza?

People who like pineapple on their pizza are indecisive and gastronomically impaired. They don't know whether they feel like eating Italian or Chinese food* and so their solution is to throw a pineapple on a pizza.

People who are decisive would never put pineapple on a pizza.


* as in sweet & sour pork etc
