Washington had been dominant in our division all year long; they played consistently well throughout the season, and it wasn't like there was ever a seesaw battle for first (unlike the cellar, where the Phils and Mets were locked in an epic struggle for last place through most of the year, with my boys triumphant). In fact, the Nats finished with the largest lead (17 games) of any of the division champs.

I'm rooting for an all-avian World Series, myself.

I'll go with LJ and root for the Giants. Rumor has it they were once a NY team. Then NYC paved this field called the polo grounds (and put up a parking lot) and the Giants went west. But that was all before my time.

Or, the alternative, a Black & Orange, Halloween Series!

oldr--I don't know when the polo grounds was torn down, but I recall both the Mets and the Titans/Jets played there in the early-mid 60s (before Shea opened). I imagine it was around until the mid 60s.

It certainly would be seasonally appropriate.

One of the hotels at the Inner Harbor (I think it's the Marriott) has rooms that look right into Camden Yards. I'm betting they're all booked already.

That would work for me...

It would also mean that the games would all be played in two of the most beautifully designed parks in the league...

Well don't keep it a secret... what was the 'real sport' that started 'today'. The suspense is killing me.

Oooh, such sour grapes. I remember you being a baseball fan, when the Indians and the Jake were hot.

And please, can someone clean up those large annoying photos of football, which do not belong in the middle of a baseball thread....... :fu

Hatch's partner has started playing baseball for a local side here. We forgive him though.

That's so precious! I'm not a baseball fan - I'm an Indians fan! (Insert joke here). I hate all other teams and hope they are loosers (sic). USians are so silly - their team's out and they get excited about some other team. Hate 'em! Hate 'em! Don't give in to this mawkish sentimentality.

Yeah, well the Seminoles might disagree with you about that, Gen'l Meade... ;)

Yes that is rather trollish...

But I would remind Messrs Stroppygob and Beer Sponge, of the four most accurate words in the English language:

If you decide to attend one of his games, I would suggest that you take some sort of motion sickness pill prior to attending...

Dramaine perhaps:

Having been raised on a diet of Cricket, you might very well pass out when exposed to the relative lightening speed of baseball...
