Here are the ten most miserable places to live in America:
10). Georgia
9). New Mexico
8). Louisiana
7). South Carolina
6). Oklahoma
5). Tennessee
4). West Virginia
3). Arkansas
2). Alabama
1). Mississippi
But are the people that live in these states happy and content?
One can take a bunch of metrics to define "miserable" but it does not tell you if the people/communities in those state are miserable.
I know people who have next to nothing and outsiders would think they are miserable, where in fact they are very happy and content.
God was going around creating the earth with all the majestic mountains, verdant forests, waterfalls and lakes. When he got to Texas he got tired and went to rest. When he came back the ground had hardened into an ugly barren scrub and he couldn't make all of the beautiful things he had made before. Then he said "I know, I'll make people who like it this way."
texas isn t really southern, except in latitude. they are a little too law and order for my tastes. I hear Austin is different. oh and china grove from the doobie bros song, wherever that is...
I really don't get how people can deride a whole state. I am not particularly fond of NY (or LI) but there are parts of the state I like, adirondacs, catskills, fingerlakes, etc. even places here on Long Island.
I've been to Texas and other than being pretty flat overall, I liked the parts I visited. All the people I met were very nice even to this "northerner".
Painting with a broad brush misses the details.

Consider the source.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
I read once that japan dismissed the thought of invading via mexico, thru texas, because they said that thjere was gun behind every bush. not sure if its true....
