Re: Waffles or Pancakes?
If it's just butter and syrup, I'd go with pancakes, if you've got more elaborate toppings in mind, waffles hold up better...

Re: Waffles or Pancakes?
Waffles . . . no, definitely waffles.
Re: Waffles or Pancakes?
Waffles. Lots of butter and maple syrup. And bacon.

Re: Waffles or Pancakes?
Real pancakes - i.e. crepes, not those awful USian things half an inch thick

Waffles. With real maple syrup not the cheap crap.
Re: Waffles or Pancakes?
Only pure maple syrup, hand carried from my favorite sugar house in Vermont. I like the deeper darker grade B. It has more maple goodiness!
I made pancakes - apple cider with grated apples, cinnamon, and buttermilk. And veggie sausage. It was delish!

Pancakes, but waffles will do if that's all there is.

Real pancakes, examples of. Best served with caster sugar and lemon juice alone.

Late to the game, but I'd go with blueberry pancakes & real maple syrup.

Meade--I prefer the thin crepe style pancakes (since my grandfather fist made for us them we always called them Norwegian pancakes, and they are still a christmas morning tradition in my house), but US thicker pancakes, French crepes, potato pancakes, Dutch babies, I like them all.

Yeah all right.
Crepe a l'orange - I made 'em once. Never got a taste for USian pancakes though - too thick and mealy for my taste. Mrs Meade enjoys them. I take waffles, given the choice.

I've never thought of them as mealy; maybe your should try another recipe.
Re: Waffles or Pancakes?
If your description of mealy is apt someone has played a horrible joke on you.MajGenl.Meade wrote:Yeah all right.Crepe a l'orange - I made 'em once. Never got a taste for USian pancakes though - too thick and mealy for my taste. Mrs Meade enjoys them. I take waffles, given the choice.

That sounds yummy...I made pancakes - apple cider with grated apples, cinnamon, and buttermilk. And veggie sausage. It was delish!
(Except for the "veggie" sausage part...I prefer my sausage to have oinked at some point )

Re: Waffles or Pancakes?
My brother in law makes them -- we call them Swedish pancakes and yes, they are fabulous (mostly because they are eggs, milk butter, a little flour, all cooked in more butter -- what could be wrong with that)! We roll them with cinnamon sugar, jam, cream cheese, berries, syrup, whatever looks good.Big RR wrote:Meade--I prefer the thin crepe style pancakes (since my grandfather fist made for us them we always called them Norwegian pancakes, and they are still a christmas morning tradition in my house), but US thicker pancakes, French crepes, potato pancakes, Dutch babies, I like them all.
My father used to make something called a plett pancake, made in a special pan (a plett pan - which makes thicker, silver dollar sized Swedish pancakes - also cooked in butter), which were our version of "Swedish" pancakes. We traditionally had them for Christmas breakfast, and topped them with Lingonberries and sour cream.
LJ - several versions of veggie sausage I ate has really good spicy flavor and nice texture. I don't miss the oinker!
