More "excessive affluence"

Post by Gob »

Thousands of people have attended breastfeeding protests in support of a Staffordshire mother who was labelled a "tramp" for feeding her baby in public.

Emily Slough, 27, was secretly photographed in Rugeley on 7 March and found it posted anonymously online.

A demonstration, organised by Ms Slough to campaign for breastfeeding in public, took place in Rugeley town centre.

Several similar events were also being held across the country.

Ms Slough said between 600 and 1,000 people turned up in Rugeley, and women breastfed their babies on steps opposite The Shrew pub.

"I'm really pleased, the support has been great," she said.

"It's no longer about the individual who did it [posted the photo on Facebook], it's about making mums feel comfortable and not ashamed of doing it."

I'm not ashamed of having a bowel movement (I understand almost everybody does it occasionally) but I'm discrete enough not to do it in public.

Most adults understand that in Western Culture, human breasts are not exposed in public, except in very specific venues where it is expected (e.g., nude beaches). That' doesn't mean that they are "dirty," or women should ashamed of them, just that they should be exposed for public viewing.

I've seen many women breast-feeding their children in public many times. They weren't exposing their breast(s). There is clothing designed for mothers who are breast-feeding.

Some people are always looking for things to get upset about.

What's up with that?

I wonder who called this lady a "tramp," and in what context.

That's just bizarre.

More "excessive affluence". ;)
Angry mothers staged a mass breastfeeding protest today in a Sports Direct store that asked a woman who was feeding her child to leave because it was against company policy.

Around 70 women descended on the shop in Nottingham city centre to show support for 25-year-old Wioletta Komar, who claimed she was kicked out of the premises earlier this year for breastfeeding her three-month-old son. Mrs Komar had been sitting on a bench inside the store waiting for her father Edward Morawiec, 63, who was trying on a T-shirts. But she claims a member of staff suddenly marched over and told her that breastfeeding mothers were not welcome because of 'company policy'. The sales assistant then told her that the store had no facilities for her and suggested she should go to McDonald's which had a baby and mother room.

Other customers then took pity on the mother-of-two and helped her to push her buggy outside so she could continue feeding Daniel. Mrs Komar claims she has complained to the store five times since the incident in January but has had no response, although it is believed the firm has now issued her with an apology.

A new mom is seething after a Texas hospital had her kicked out while breastfeeding her son as she waited for the little boy's vaccination appointment.

Erin Pena took to Facebook to blast the University Medical Center in Lubbock on Tuesday, who she claimed threatened to cancel her doctors appointment if she didn't move to a bathroom or private room the feed.

The mother had been sitting waiting for her OBGNY for about an hour when her son became hungry - but was told to cover up.

'I said I had the right to breastfeed anywhere. (The receptionist) said if I don't stop she will cancel my baby's appointment.

'I refused and she canceled it, so I went to find the doctor thinking she would be reasonable and she wasn't.

She was condescending, kept calling me ''honey''.

'I said, "No one in the lobby even cared (that I was breastfeeding)''.

'She rudely said, yeah, they do, they just don't say it to your face.'

Pena then left the medical center with the security guard.

'I'm so disgusted,' Pena said.

'My doctor even lied saying I was walking around with my breast hanging out, even though she never saw what happened.

'I was just sitting there in a chair. It was sickening.'

UMC have since apologized for the incident, after word of it started spreading on social media.

Our society is totally and completely FUCKED UP! :loon

I've been watching Criminal Minds, now that seasons 1-9 are available to stream on Netflix. I've watched 7 seasons thus far, with only a few episodes being repeats that I'd caught here and there on first-run TV.

My point is, that show is entertaining and well-written, but it's depraved. SICK, TWISTED, DEPRAVITY that gets terrific ratings and is now onto its 10th season. Hannibal is about to start its 2nd season, also SICK TWISTED and DEPRAVED, but great ratings.

We watch hours upon hours of the most ghoulish and macabre violence against women, children, men, etc. on television yet people - DOCTORS??? OB/GYN, no less??? - complain about the most natural and beautiful act of a mother suckling her infant??????

FOR REAL??????? :loon :arg

Apples and oranges.

For a number of public health reasons, every society requires those defecating and urinating to remove themselves from the areas in which the public congregate; likewise, these acts produce foul smelling products which can adversely affect others around you. Breastfeeding babies fails on both counts.

One would have to look pretty closely to see that those women in the OP were breast feeding.
I don't see the problem. Those who are offended by it, look the other way. Is it really that hard?

I think that's pretty universal, which is why we have a lot of topless beaches, but not one crying baby beach.

And a suckling baby doesn't cry - up with breast feeding! Stuff a nipple in every whinging baby's mouth!

Those damn affluent Hungarians!
Mothers in the Hungarian capital Budapest have occupied a McDonald's restaurant in protest against its move earlier this week to stop a woman from breast-feeding her baby.

Image

Several baby-carrying mothers entered a McDonald's near the Western Railway Station, sat down, bared their breasts and began feeding their babies.
The protest was against the treatment of the young mother on Wednesday.
A McDonald's statement blamed a security guard for the incident.
Women are welcome to breast-feed in McDonald's restaurants as part of the fast food chain's family-friendly policy, the statement said.
It added that an investigation into the incident had been launched.

"I was waiting for my sister who was due to arrive by train," the young mother caught up in the dispute wrote on Facebook.
"I fed my baby at home before I set out, in order to avoid this [breast-feeding in public], but it was 30C (86F) and my baby was very hot and thirsty.
"I went into the restaurant at nine in the morning and looked around for a quiet spot where I wouldn't disturb anyone.
"I asked a waitress and she said it would be fine."
But when she started the feed, a security guard told her she was not engaging in "accepted activity" in the restaurant.
The guard then went away to check with the manager, came back and asked her again to stop.

When she told a friend what had happened the story spread further on Facebook and other social media - and Friday's sudden protest was organised.
"Very few women nurse their babies in public in Hungary, because they are afraid they will be harassed or treated disrespectfully," Erika Schmidt, a mother of three and member of the Birthhouse Foundation, told the BBC after taking part in the protest.
"This was the first time women have gathered to show their solidarity to each other - it was marvellous!" she said.
Another baby-feeding protester, Palma Fazakas, said that staff and other diners at the restaurant were "very friendly".
"The atmosphere was very good," she said.
The McDonald's restaurant where the incident happened is part of the Western Railway Station in Budapest, designed by the French architect Gustave Eiffel, which opened in 1897.
It has a reputation as one of the most beautiful McDonald's in the world.

well, I thought it was funny....

seriously tho, its no more weird than people gettin' torqued off because a woman is feeding a baby.

whether you believe we were created by god, evolved from the primordial ooze, were dropped here by ancient aliens, or all of the above, either way women have nipples that produce milk that feeds their babies. geez, unless the lady is walking around with a 5 yr old hanging off her teat, I don t see the problem.
