Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
I watched the entire game. By the time it was over I had tied a rope around my neck and attached it to a ceiling fan. After the last out I jumped off a chair and the on/off chain on the fan got tangled with the rope and pulled it to start it spinning. The fan swung me around the room five times then cut me loose and I slammed my head into the wall and was knocked out until this morning.
I really hope SF wins tonight...

Congrats to the Giants and especially MVP Bumgarner (for being the second team of the century to win three world championships
)!!!!
Congrats also to the Royals for getting back to the Series after so many years. Cleveland is jealous.

You just can't say enough about that Bumgarner feller...
For this series, 2-0 with one save, 31 strikeouts, and a 0.25 ERA.
Broke the record (23, that had stood for 70 years) for most consecutive scoreless innings on the road in playoff games with 32. (Then he allowed a run and pitched 14 more...and that's just away games)

Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
Jim--last night during the game they said Bumgarner was scored as the winner of the game; when did this change?
Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
I was surprised to see the change this morning too. It looks like from the rules that it was a judgement call based on Affeldt's performance:
Though personally I would have preferred to see it go to Madison; afterall he pitched five scoreless innings, more than the previous two pitchers combined...
It would be tough to say that a guy who pitched 2 and third scoreless innings was "ineffective"...Bumgarner was originally credited by the official scorers with the win after throwing five innings of shutout relief to close out San Francisco's 3-2 victory over Kansas City on Wednesday night.
After consulting with the Elias Sports Bureau, Bumgarner was credited with the save instead and reliever Jeremy Affeldt got the win for his first career Series decision. The change was announced about 50 minutes following the final out.
Affeldt was in the game when the Giants scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Under rule 10.17, the only way a pitcher does not get the win when he is in the game when the winning run scores is if he is a starter and did not go five innings or was "ineffective in a brief appearance." Affeldt pitched 2 1-3 scoreless innings in relief of Tim Hudson and therefore earned the win.
That gave Bumgarner the save as the finishing pitcher in the victory. The previous longest save in Series history since it became an official stat in 1969 was a 3 2-3 inning stint by Steve Howe in the Game 6 clincher for the Dodgers against the Yankees in 1981. Lefty Grove would have gotten a 4 1-3 inning save in Game 2 in 1929 for the Philadelphia Athletics against the Chicago Cubs under the current rules.
Though personally I would have preferred to see it go to Madison; afterall he pitched five scoreless innings, more than the previous two pitchers combined...

Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
I only saw from the sixth inning on; I presume the Giants got their third run was when Affeldt was pitching? If so that make sense.

Congrats to the SF Giants.
Did they riot and loot the city of SF to celebrate last night?

Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
Not looting, but unfortunately some violence, vandalism and bottles thrown; mostly concentrated in one area of town:
I strongly suspect that the shootings, (and possibly the stabbing as well) were the result of gang members using the cover of the police being busy with crowd control to settle scores. (The burning couch may have been a diversion)
This wouldn't be the first time this has happened; the Mission District is a hot bed of gang activity, and a handful gang bangers using the cover of large night time celebrations to conduct attacks has resulted in the city sadly clamping down on what were very festive outdoor large celebrations. (like Halloween and New Years Eve. When I first moved out here in the late 80's, The Castro was "the" place to be on Halloween, gay or straight; a great time. Now they close all the bars and police line the sidewalks cracking down on people drinking in public to keep the crowd size down.)
As is so often the case nowadays, a handful of assholes have to ruin things for everyone...

I'm sensing a pattern...At least two people were shot and one stabbed as San Francisco burst into spontaneous celebrations, with fans flooding the streets following the Giants' World Series victory over the Kansas City Royals, reports CBS SF Bay Area.
A gunshot victim walked into San Francisco General Hospital during the celebrations, saying he'd been hit while in the city's Mission District, the station says, adding that he is expected to survive.
Earlier, someone was shot in the arm, also in the Mission District. That victim's wound was also thought to be non-life-threatening, police spokesman Gordon Shyy told the station. The shooter was at large, Shyy said.
In addition, one person was stabbed, but no information was available on the severity of that wound, Shyy said.
The revelry was blocking traffic around Civic Center, in the Mission District and on Market Street within walking distance of AT&T Park.
Several arrests were reported.
Fans also set fire to a couch in the Mission District and set other bonfires. In some places, people climbed on top of buses, cars and street signs. Firecrackers were set off.
There were reports of bottles being thrown at officers in some instances. Police were seen in riot gear in the Mission District and on Market Street, says CBS SF Bay Area.
After the team won the Series in 2012, vandals caused widespread damage in the city, including setting a city bus on fire.
For the most part, though, Wednesday night's celebrations were joyous and peaceful.

Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
I thought SF might be better than this, but I guess there are assoholes everywhere.
I had season tickets to the Islanders when they won the stanley cup. Don't remember any out of control things. Hempstead turnpike traffic might have been a little disrupted but no burning and bottle throwing. After the game we went to a bar in carle place called hte wobbly dick and some of hte islanders showed up. All in all very calm.
i guess it's best my Jets don't ever win the Super Bowl.
Congrats to the Giants again.

Is it over at last?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
Not here it isn't...
The parade is this afternoon...
The classes at both of the kids schools were cancelled for it, and we're supposed head down to the Civic Center on The L Taraval around 11:30...
Personally I'd just as soon not go, (Its started raining; the one day it rains around here has to be the day of the World Series parade and Halloween...
)
The idea of standing in a crowd in the rain for two hours isn't exactly number one on my Good Times List, but I don't think I'm going to be able to get out of it...
We took Jimmy two years ago but he was three, so he wasn't that into it...This year he's really excited to go, (plus of course he's already stoked for Halloween) and as he's pointed out we have umbrellas...
Tati has been to both the earlier parades in '10 and '12 and really doesn't seem all that keen on going to this one, but I've assured her that if I'm going she's going...
Kelly's down with the flu so she gets a pass...
