The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
I sooo do not want to do this...
Now it's not only raining steadily but it's getting windy too...my son has no frame of reference for what standing out in this kind of weather for a couple of hours is actually like...
I'm still trying to talk him out of it...
I pointed out that if I have to hold an umbrella I won't be able to hold him on my shoulders, and he won't be able to see anything...But my boy is a problem solver; he thought about that for a second, and then said that Tati could hold the umbrella and I could hold him...
My plan now is to leave just as a really big cell is passing over; maybe after we walk about a block in that he'll re-think the wisdom of this...

Just say no. He's the kid. You're the adult. Make the right decision. You'll all die in the riot of excitement amongst the rounders fan(s).
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
Yeah, I find myself using that approach sometimes, but in this case would prefer to convince him rather than have him sit around in a funk all day...He was really excited about this...Just say no. He's the kid. You're the adult.
Of course if we go, I'm going to have Tati pissed off, so now I get to decide which kid I'd rather have mad at me...

It's the sort of thing your son may always remember and treasure. Also, it's extra fun to be out in the rain when you're young. Don't be a fuddy duddy daddy.
Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
That's kind of the dilemma...It's the sort of thing your son may always remember and treasure.
If it were just some sort of ordinary thing, I'd just say no...

Lady Kelly to the rescue...
She came up with an argument that finally persuaded him...
She told him that if he stayed out in the rain that long he might get sick and if he got sick he couldn't go trick-or-treating....
I assured him that even if it was still raining we would still go trick-or-treating...(we bought a clear poncho for him to wear over his costume earlier this week in case of such an eventuality; I remember a couple of rainy Halloweens growing up; that didn't stop us...)
In the meantime, I found the channel that it's being televised on, so we're going to watch it on TV...
BTW Joe, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area is covering it. If you're interested, you can find the channel for your area here:

Thanks, Jim. I just put my Giants uniform on and turned on the TV...Lord Jim wrote: BTW Joe, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area is covering it. If you're interested, you can find the channel for your area here:

Have you never heard of "waterproofs" Jim? Standing in the rain for two hours is what we call "a holiday" in the UK

Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
We actually did wind up going, and I'm glad we did...
It was coming down bad at 11:30, but a little after noon it cleared up here, and on the Doppler radar I could see that the main rain bands had moved south of the city...
Lady Kelly dropped us off at Glen Park, and we took the BART down to the Civic Center, and we got there in plenty of time to see Bumgarner and the rest of the heroes ride by...(and we picked up some of the confetti that was dropped as a souvenir of the occasion)

But Boston does it better.

Gee Jarl, after all your rooting for the Royals, I was hoping for a gracious admission of defeat...

Re: The Playoffs For A Real Sport Start Today...
Dude, I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan & have been long enough to remember when the games were broadcast on channel 38 by Sean McDonough and Bob Mongomery. Yes, I was hoping for KC to win...but if the Sox aren't involved, and I can't root against the Yankees, it's not all that important to me. (Note: I only watched one game.)

My personal favorite Giant is Pablo "Panda" Sandoval....
If Bumgardner hadn't been the series MVP, Pablo certainly would have been...
He batted .366 in the playoffs, .421 in The Series, including going four-for-four in Game Seven...
He also turned in a phenomenal fielding performance at third...
What I like most about Pablo, is to see that a guy who doesn't look like he spends every free minute in the weight room, (Pablo's never gonna steal a lot of bases or score from second on a base hit single...) a guy basically built like Frank Howard or Boog Powell, can still be a star in MLB in 2014...

Pablo's a guy I can identify with...
