It's broken
It's broken
African American culture. It is in shambles, I personally refuse to take any responsibility for it.
You want to burn this bitch down? Let's start with the race card. Let's put duct tape over the mouths of apologists. It is time for the AA community to pull up their pants and start making a positive contribution to society.
My guess is 98% of those who made an appearance at the "protest " in Ferguson could not have cared one iota about Mike Brown. It was an opportunity to get something for nothing and absolutely nothing beyond that.
This police chief spoke candidly and was spot on.

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: It's broken
absolutely correct, tpk and police chief.
I don t feel responsible for the state of the black community either.
I do feel some responsibility to help repair it tho, if only for my own and my kids' sakes.

White privilege is characterized by the fact that those who enjoy it are often incapable of recognizing it, or more likely, unwilling to acknowledge the truth of it.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Re: It's broken
geez big sky, stop with the white guilt already. the past is over. learn from it and move on.
Re: It's broken
...al Sharpton gets a small check for every utterance of such things
Re: It's broken
Many of the protesters weren't there out of direct concern for Michael Brown, but many were there because the shooting of black kids & adults happens too often and is perceived by them as a white on black crime.
Many black people have good reason not to trust the police. The truth is that in our history being black has made people suspicious looking in the eyes of many white people. I know plenty of white people who say they don't trust cops but I don't hear anyone react by putting white people down and telling them to get over it.
I don't have any white guilt for the plight of black people and I know many of them cause their own problems. I hate the actions of the rioters who take advantage of the protests to do their early Christmas shopping. One problem is that all black people always seem to be judged by the actions of a few of them. If you look beyond the color of people, you'll see poverty, lack of education and other issues cause people, regardless of their color or ethnicity, to commit crimes.
On the other hand, I don't like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and others coming out and stirring up the protesters whenever something like this happens.
I wish we had mediator here to give us the black view on these protesters and the rioters...

Re: It's broken
Do they provide progressive liberals with speech pages to work from? It certainly seems like it is the case. Stop uttering the same sorry excuses for this behavior.bigskygal wrote:White privilege is characterized by the fact that those who enjoy it are often incapable of recognizing it, or more likely, unwilling to acknowledge the truth of it.
My "privileged" in life has been obtained through hard work and education.
I came from white-trashy wife-beating uneducated garbage and pulled myself up out of it to excel. Nothing that I have in my life was given to me because I am white. I got Jack from my parents in the way of educational help or any other assistance.
So I fart in the general direction of those who spittle excuses for people of any color.
You want respect in life get up off your duff and earn it.
I understand that there have been countless injustices however the current population of AA in this country have opportunities that no other generation of AA ever had. They squander everything given to them.

Re: It's broken
Well now there's a rash generalization. It's that "they" phrase that's objectionable although I agree with much of your contention. Black people are not an amorphous "they" - it's a bunch of individuals, some of whom act one way and some of whom act another way - jes' like white folks.
What that chief said was spot on. The media and the megamouths can rattle off the names of the last three blacks shot by cops in less than clear circumstances - but they can't name three of the countless number of black victims of crime - murdered children - because they are not interested. Dog bites man is never much of a headline.

"they" are we. if not, this country is in for a world of hurt.

They= those who take no interest in the actual politics of the situation and instead enjoy the rioting aspects yet cry foul as if they were fouled.

There is no unitary "African American Culture" any more than there is a single entity called "White American Culture".
shockingly ignorant.
And most of you are missing it. You are focusing on the flint which struck the spark and ignoring the kindling and bonfire which had been laid over decades and was lying there waiting to be ignited.
You won't get it because you refuse to ask the right question. Why are they so angry?

Rudy Giuliani made much the same legitimate point on Meet The Press last Sunday that Chief Flynn made in the clip in the OP...
And he got attacked and called a "white supremacist"

Bill Cosby understood this....African American culture. It is in shambles
Unfortunately he turned out to be a poor advocate, what with being a serial rapist....
