Re: What is your 70s anthem?
In the middle of a thread about 70's rock anthems?
Not so much...
I have to confess that the relationship is not immediately apparent to me...
But maybe I'm just a little dense....

Re: What is your 70s anthem?
The ONLY real 70's anthem!!
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

Re: What is your 70s anthem?
... but as anthems go, surely not a patch on this?
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: What is your 70s anthem?
Really Jim? For Washington--first in war, first in peace, last in the national league?Lord Jim wrote:Oh man, you do not want to get me started on that...Joe Guy wrote:The Senators haven't even had a team in over 40 years...

Re: What is your 70s anthem?
Actually in that old line, it was "last in the American League"... (As I recall in my youth, we were constantly competing with Cleveland for cellar dweller rights, while the Orioles, led by the insufferable Earl Weaver, dominated the division...)Really Jim? For Washington--first in war, first in peace, last in the national league?
Today in the National League, Washington is making a much better accounting of itself...
ETA:
However, sadly, not in the National Football League...

Re: What is your 70s anthem?
Now that you mention it, I think you're correct. Ah youth!
By the way, the first time I heard that was in a Little Rascals/Our Gang short dating from the 30s (probably) so I guess they were consistent.

Re: What is your 70s anthem?
The last time the Washington Senators won the World Series was also an election year:

One thing that did make the cut on my Bucket List is:
"Find out where that no good bastard Robert Short is buried, and piss on his grave..."
My feelings about Short run very deep...
I could go into all the ludicrous trades he made to help destroy the team before he stole it, but the big thing for me is that he didn't just steal the team...
He stole a big chunk of my youth away, just as I was really starting to get into baseball...
I take that very personally...
To give you an idea of how I feel about Short, if I were asked the question "Who do you loathe and despise more; Edward Snowden or Robert Short?"
I'd have to flip a coin...

To start you on your enuretic quest: (from Wikipedia)
On March 21, 2005, Short died of leukemia at New York Presbyterian Hospital.[2] He is buried in Atherton Cemetery in Danville, Illinois, the city of his birth.
Happy pissing.
