Place, call the handyman.

Works every time.

There are some jobs I take care of myself, but I'm one to keep the handyman busy quite a bit.

I have a number of projects I want to complete around this house in the coming year; the handyman charges $20/hr. plus cost of materials, while my time is worth a few hundred an hour.

It's a no-brainer, as I'd rather spend my 'free' time reading or hanging out with friends, than getting frustrated over DIY home improvement.
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

I rather enjoy DIY home improvement (other than painting). Besides, I usually do a better job than any handyman.

Gee, on that basis bsg, shouldn't you pay the handyman to do your reading and friend-hanging (I use nails)? It's far more economical considering your hourly rate :nana :ok

FINALLY we're going to close on Saturday at 1pm. A notary is coming by the house with a stack of papers to sign. The company is an LP and spent a lot of time dithering around asking for the same documents and then complaining that we weren't making monthly installments on the 2nd mortgage (maybe they had never heard of a zero-interest loan) and then complaining about HO insurance which had been adequate for the prior two refis. I can't figure out how this business model can work for them. They must re-sell the loans immediately and make most of their margin on the (low) origination fees because god knows putting out a 30-year loan at 3.75% locks in what looks like a uselessly low return.
