Argument to Support Law that Atheists Cannot Hold Office...
Argument to Support Law that Atheists Cannot Hold Office...
This morning I heard on the radio that some states have it in their constitution that a person must believe in God in order to hold public office. So, I thought it would be interesting to find an article about the subject and post it here for discussion.
Then I found the following video from an apparent supporter of that idea (transcript & video are at this source) and I was reminded once again that people will believe whatever they want to believe.
And they want you to believe it too...

I'd lay good odds on someone who professed to being an atheist not becoming president.

Odd that - along with child molesters, nose-pickers and Welsh.
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

There have been at least seven U.S. Presidents with Welsh ancestry including Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, John Quincy Adams, James Garfield, Calvin Coolidge, Richard Nixon. Confederate President Jefferson Davis, Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard, U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton are also of Welsh heritage

I can tell you this, even the Supreme Court of the United States has an alternative certificate of admission that removes the words "in the year of our lord" from the recitation of the date. It also does not require any oath "under God." Which is, of course, the correct thing to do, under our actual Constitution (not the one the guy in the video above professes to know something about).
I, ........................................................ , do solemnly swear (or affirm) that as an attorney and as a counselor of this Court, I will conduct myself uprightly and according to law, and that I will support the Constitution of the United States.

I think actions speak louder than beliefs. Sayiing one believes in God means nothing if they do not back it up with good actions.a person must believe in God in order to hold public office

Which is how we know what happened to the few capable Welsh people.

Nice to see all the unsolicited abuse.
Manning's best joke, Gob:
In 2002, after the death of the Queen Mother, he said that the Royal Corgis were happy to hear about her death as they would no longer be blamed for urinating on the settee

Not bloody likely...
You couldn't offer me good enough odds to take that bet...

Re: Argument to Support Law that Atheists Cannot Hold Office
At least not in our lifetimes. hell, I doubt you'll see anyone but a professed christian being elected president in our lifetimes.
Re: Argument to Support Law that Atheists Cannot Hold Office
I think it's possible that someone who was professed Jewish could also win at this point...
If Al Gore had won in 2000, Joe Lieiberman would have been Vice President, and his religion wasn't an issue in that race...
But other than Christian or Jewish...
Probably not...

What do you mean, you already elected a Muslim president, right?
Don't tell me that was nothing but a conservative smear.

A Muslim socialist who was born in Kenya...
We're very tolerant about who we elect to the Presidency...
