Earlier this year, crews renovating the Old State House in Boston pulled out a 1901 time capsule from the top of the head of the golden lion that sits on top. Interesting, and historically significant, but nothing earth shattering (I can't even remember what they retrieved from inside the box).
Today however, crews working on the current state house (built in 1795) announced they have found a time capsule they believe was put into the building by then-governor Sam Adams and Paul Revere! They're working on pulling it out right now --- so far a coin has fallen out, and they believe it will contain newspapers, and engraved plate (hopefully created by Revere), coins, and other memorabilia. http://beta.next.cnn.com/2014/12/11/us/ ... index.html
Besides being utterly fascinating, it started me thinking about what I'd put in a time capsule to commemorate 2014. What would you include for a building in your town or city?
for Boston:
-- 2013 Red Sox WS rings, that shows their 3 wins this century (hey, they were the defending champs for most of 2014).
- Jerseys and rosters for the Sox, Pats, Bruins and Celts (because there is no town that loves its sports like this town).
- a pound of DD coffee beans
- Boston Marathon memorabilia and bombing commemoration
- Mayor Menino's obituary
- iPhone 6
- Charlie card and T map
- $20 bill and atm card
. . . . will think of more later . . .
